Read a few things online, neg cable wait 10, disconnect both wait 10, key to run press pedal slow wait at wot then release slow.

here is the thing,
Today i disconnected my battery, was going to wait 10 mins and then reconnect just to test that method. BOTH terminals disconnected truck still lit up when i turned to run(did not try to start). Guessing the aux battery has something to do with that?

so what is the actual procedure to reset the ECU/ throttle body so it "relearns fuel curves driving habits, adapts to mods etc from scratch without a dealer or code scanner?

The wiring parallels the batteries together. You have to remove the connection from negative to the frame to shut the system down.
is that the right procedure i have listed ?
im guessing you mean the ground on the inside of the engine just near the battery? Or down low on the frame somewhere?

When you just remove the cables from the Main Battery posts, the connection between the body and negative cables remains intact. This leaves the Aux Battery powering the system. The cable that connects between the body and the negative wiring bundle has to be removed to shut it down.

Pull the nut that holds both black cables to the IBS.
Remove the cable pair from the IBS stud.
Now remove the nut that holds the two black cables together
Take them apart and KEEP THEM FROM TOUCHING STUFF.
Now the truck will be dead.

If you have JScan or a decent bidirectional scan tool, there is PIDS to dump the adaptive learning and reset.
would ECRI Do it ? I dont relish the idea of trying to get back into the gateway above the pedals again lol.

so take off both terminal clamps, separate the cables from each other, and remove the ground that is attached to the body? (im guessing its the one near the battery on the fender?)

once "dead"
what is the procedure to reset? wait 10 mins? Also what is the procedure "set to run, press pedal slowly hold at wot and release slowly?" is that the correct one for the throttle body reset?

No need to remove the body ground if you take the cables off the IBS and then take the two cables apart from each other.
But make really sure that smaller of the two black cables (which goes down to the aux battery) does not touch a ground or it will power things up again.
I love the idea some members here use - slip the cable ends in gloves! One glove for each cable end. Safe and easy.

thanks,
I'm somewhat confused what you mean by IBS (intelligent battery system/sensor?).

i get taking the terminals off, where/ what is the ibs? ( I saw your pic of it in another post)

I guess what is primarily confusing me is i removed the connectors from the post on the main battery(lol i did actually use gloves to insulate them) they touched nothing. I clearly missed something, lol i just cant quite place it.

THANKS! I'll get into this tomorrow.

just to confirm, once i pop off all the cables...
wait like 5-10 mins and it will put the ecu back in learning mode so it will have to re adapt to things like exhaust and reset my "driving habits" that it has learned?

What type of problems were you having to make you want to reset?
I’m curious to know your outcome …and/or how long a reset lasts.

The GMC Canyon I owned had that adaptive learning that I suspected caused a stutter/chuggle (wouldn’t downshift). After many visits to the dealership ….they could never pinpoint the issue (of course not🙄). But after each dealership visit -the truck shifted as expected and no chuggle/stutter. Chuggle/stutter came back after a few weeks.

I have installed exhaust and intake. Beyond that i too have a random "chug" when stepping on the gas. Its mostly getting on the highway, i press the gas and the truck is like oh you need to go....ok lets go. I'm going off the idea that the ECU learns my driving habits, etc, resetting it in this aspect is kind of like resetting your router. I don't expect much. It is the first step in finding why it hesitates now and then and could be connected to why i get 15mpg and less. barring winter blend gas it should be higher(though again, i don't expect much its a brick with wheels and i have a fair amount of mods/ addons)

Totally agree..... I get that throttle lag also especially when cold. It's been pretty normal for most trucks I've owned over the years.

In the Canyon, after making a turn and getting on the gas... it wouldn't downshift to a lower gear. It was rather annoying. Folks with a heavy foot didn't seem to have those problems.
It shifted perfect when in Tow/Haul mode.
