So over in ram land a 1500 can be optioned with the hurricane 6 at 420 hp for just 1695 up charge

Would a lot of gladiator buyers pay that premium for a turbo 6?

I'm a no on turbos but I think a lot of buyers would opt for it.

IF they did it in a gladiator it would cost 10k minimum for the engine, because they'd throw it in a new trim (like the 392) tie it to a bunch of normally a la carte options that would typically cost you 20k, then sell the whole package for 30k more (hence where i'm getting my 10k engine price form)

@Rahkmalla I only hope it would be stand alone option as they just added for the ram 1500. On a low end trim. I wouldn't want the turbo 6 but I think if you could get a willy's with the straight 6 for 1695$ a lot would opt for it.

It is too long for the JT/JL engine bay anyway so do we honestly think a stretched hood/frame and an engine upgrade are only going to cost $1700? If they offered it, add a 0 at a minimum. Would you opt for a problematic I6 turbo for $17k? Hard pass. The 5.7L would fit and I'd much rather have it anyway.

While I think the price for HP is great, I wouldn't touch the I6 until they work out the teething issues with it, plastic water pump failing, etc....
To this day I cannot understand why the hell any manufacturer insists on a plastic impeller water pump.

It is not like there's decades of other manufacturers trying it and finding out the hard way no matter what the composition of the plastic is, it will fail prematurely and regularly at that. (Looking at you, BMW.)

It's never been about horsepower for me, I want that low end torque. I wouldn't even know what to do with 400 hp, it sounds like I would just get myself into trouble faster.

I like the diesel, but it does need a tune. I've been looking at the Banks, but there are some other priorities with house and vet bills right now that take priority.

The Banks setup makes a big difference. They show up used all the time since people take them out when they trade in the truck. I regularly see iDash + derringer + pedal monster kits for $500 or less, cheap enough to try one out and get your money back if you don't like it.

Right? It's a big risk and when you're launching a new engine you'd want to minimize risk to minimize chances of your new engine getting a reputation for being unreliable and killing it before it even gets off the ground.

I mean I understand that new materials/composites come along but is a water pump the place where you want to try out a composite strengths when it's subject to so much direct heat cycling? What's next, are they going to make the oil cooler out of plastic............oh wait.

That is exactly what the greedy execs would do. However, If I had to take a guess about what we will see in the future based on all the recent surveys and polls to existing owners… a redesigned Gladiator with IFS and a 4 cylinder turbo is coming. Hurricane might be an option, but it will be a premium package. Shame.
