Ram/Jeep put out a STAR Publication saying, "Using the oil specified for the Gen 2 engine in the Gen 3, will lead to deposits forming in the turbo charger, leading to reduced performance."

A MasterTech for Mopar also showed the following image of a turbo that was taken off one of the test mules.

I know this is a little off-topic, but once these things are gummed up like that, are there any alternatives to removing them to clean the system out?

No, there's not much you can do. It's important to run a good quality oil that meets specs. I would also be careful about extending oil changes without an oil analysis to guide those decisions.

Damn Jeep be contradicting and makes it confusing as hell. I thought they had updated the MY2022 that MS-12991 is now recommended, and that any with API SN/SN+/SP are okay to use? Did they just changed their mind again?

Nothing has changed. They still recommend the MS-12991 spec.
Unfortunately, most MS-12991 spec oils are a mid to high-SAPS.

I'd rather to replace a DPF once in awhile than to tears the engine apart to cleans internal components. So MS-12991 for me lol

Trying to find ACEA C4 low saps oil was harder than I expected. Figured a few more name brands would have European blends that met C4 but I didn’t find any. Did find Pureguard(never used it), Lucas on Amazon, and Amsoil AFL that are ACEA C3.
Has anyone found a reasonably available 5W40 low saps or ACEA C4 oil?

It sucks that we have to choose between 2 evils. Older diesels like my 2002 7.3 are so much easier to maintain.

Most? I haven't heard of any MS-12991 oils that aren't mid to full SAPS. Are you aware of a verified low SAPS oil with MS-12991 spec?

As far as I know, all MS-12991 oils are either a Mid or High SAPS. Some EcoDiesel owners are running a Low SAPS, but they are not MS-12991.

Hopefully most of us will get 150,000 miles out of the DPF. Those who are mostly on the highway will get over 200,000 miles on their DPF. I don't mind replacing the DPF every 15 years/150,000 miles. ;)

Agree. The cost of a DPF every 15yrs is worth it to me as it can be replaced with the truck on jack stands. Hopefully, it's not to expensive by then. $2500 over 15yrs is just $166 a year or $14 a month. I spends more on stupid stuffs in any given month lol.

Realistically, not many will be owning it for that long anyway. I'm just enjoying the torque and will deals with it when time comes.

There's litigation right now at the federal level that is trying to bring clarity to that issue. As the vehicle ages, it should no longer be subject to emission standards beyond its useful life. It would be nice if the federal government made that clear. For example, the argument could be made that emissions components should remain intact for 10 years/150,000 miles. Anything beyond that, they would no longer be subject to those standards.

I like the way you think. That's exactly how I think when it comes to preventative mantainance, repairs, and cost of ownership. It's also why I won't sell our 2015 and 2020 EcoDiesels. Once the vehicles are paid off, it's cheaper to keep than to replace them.

Our 2015 Ram EcoDiesel is already 10 years old. It has 130,000 miles on the odometer. So far, it's still on the factory DPF. Our 2020 Ram EcoDiesel if 5 years old with 48,000 miles on the odometer, which means we're averaging about 10,000 miles per year on it. And lastly, our 2023 Gladiator EcoDiesel with a December build date has 3,200 miles. So far, we are averaging 3,000 miles per year on that vehicle.

By the time I retire (Lord willing), we should be 100% debt free with a fleet of vehicles.
