I found a jeep equipped as I want that being built for a dealer about 50 miles from my hometown dealer.

I’d drive the 50 miles if it means substantial savings, but I’d prefer to show some loyalty to may local dealer since that’s where I’ll go for service.

My guess is that it’s always best to buy from the guy who has it on the lot (or soon to be on the lot), but just wondering…

Can I get the same deal on a Jeep that’s ordered by another dealer ?

You could ask the dealer that you want to be loyal to what the upcharge if any will be. All we can do is guess what he will charge, if anything.

Personally I would throw the concern of loyalty out the window. Not that I am a disloyal type, but you are rewarding them with your loyalty but they will not pay it back when they charge you and overcharge you for everything going forward.

The reality is that just because you buy it there doesn't mean that that is the best place to have it serviced. All three of the current Jeeps I own were bought at one dealership but then serviced at a different one and they aren't separated by more than 20 miles.

The Service Team at the location where I bought the Jeeps are not a pleasant group to work with. They are very "unhelpful". The guys at the parts desk are great but the Service Advisors are awful.

The dealership where I do get it serviced has a great Service Team and I love going in to them. They are friendly and honest. But their sales policies are essentially "Pay the Sticker or Go Away." I literally had one of the younger sales guys at that dealership ask where I bought my JTR because he wants one, however, his management won't even work with him on the price of a new JT. So he actually went to the other dealership (where I bought mine) and bought his JT there.

Bottom line is, get that "loyalty to the dealership" nonsense out of your head and do what is the right thing for you.

Yeah, you’re right.

In my case, the nearest dealer has been adequate for service and went to bat for me for a warranty repair, but their sales department acts like there’s a line at the door to pay full price (maybe there is : )

I’m jut not keen to be that guy.

Honestly, within those four walls they are two wildly different teams. Be loyal to the Service Team if they’ve done right by you; but I guarantee those guys don’t give a d@mn whether you buy it there. Chances are they don’t care for the Sales Team either

There is no up charge when a dealer does a “trade”. When I was a salesman we never charged for a dealer trade. I found my 2025 Grand Cherokee 60 miles from my local dealer. They did the dealer trade and there was no additional charge.

Likewise when I was in the car business maybe 25 years ago.

Yeah, I would inquire about a trade with the local dealer first and if they balk, just beat feet to the actual dealer with the vehicle you want and work with them.

What @HooliganActual says is spot on. There is rarely any loyalty anymore. Even rare to find a dealership that has a good sales and service department within the same dealership. Usually one is lacking.

Unless you are dealing with one of the very rare rural dealerships still around, loyalty goes out the window and you are just a number. I dealt with one Toyota dealership over the years and bought 5 Toyota's from the same salesman. Every time I dealt with that salesman, it was like I was a fresh walk on the lot buyer.

Unless you have a guy you’re working with and know him on a personal level, who cares wnere you buy your Jeep. If you want to buy from that particular dealer, ask them to do a dealer trade. But dont offer to pay anything extra for it. Dealers trade vehicles with each other, all the time.

I'm in NY so maybe it's different here cause seemingly everyone is a piece of shit, but I was on the same boat as you and purchased a Mojave X 50 miles away. Warranty work was declined by 2 local dealerships, and the one that did wouldn't offer any sort of loaner because I didn't purchase the car there. Just something to keep in mind

I guess you've had very different experiences where you are.
It's just the opposite here - in fact, a couple of the service advisors here really like the sales guy I use - as do the ones who give rides home if you need one. And my sales guy keeps a good relationship with many of the service guys - knows them by name and so on. They actually work together as a team.
More than once my sales guy, Scott, has introduced me to some of the other staff as "a very good, knowledgeable customer". I've gotten personal service from their parts people, too, thanks to Scott.
Scott worked with the service manager and a service advisor he likes to get the sunrider stuff started. He even got an apology from them for how another service advisor was talking to me when I first came in. I was surprised.

But he's been there something like 25 years............ is well liked there.

As far as cost - naw, doesn't matter if it's a dealer they work with. Same price.

Generally you would pay transportation cost to get it to your location. Unless it’s a short distance, 60 miles…

I bought a Jeep at my local dealer in Washington, did a few mods, then shipped it to Hawaii. I have had the recalls done in Hawaii.

Both dealerships treat me great. The service writers in Hilo, Hawaii are just outstanding, the dealer in Washington still helps out when needed, and he let me (or rather insisted) that I wrote my own purchase order so any mistakes would be mine-but I had come with the list of what I wanted and did not want anyway, so that was fun.

At the very least I assume you would have to pay to load and ship the JT so why not just fetch it yourself. The local service writers probably will not have a care about where the JT came from. If you buy your parts and get serviced locally that should be enough support to the local dealer.

They typically have a "range" around here. If within that range, there's no difference at all.
What they do here is hire the same people who drive the shuttles back and forth taking people to work and picking them up later. It's usually retired people working for small money.

There's no shipping in many cases for one vehicle - it's driven back, not trucked, depending on the distance.

It makes sense to pick it up yourself - depending. Do you have a way to get there to begin with?
Do you have to pay someone to get you there? Do you have a ride? Rental vehicle to get there.
I'd pay a bit extra instead of driving over into Illinois, taking hours and hours out of my day, and finding a way to get there to begin with.
Others might have a different situation.

So really, the OP has to make a choice/decision based on their own unique set of circumstances.

Why not TALK to the dealer? Ask these questions!
Why ask those who can only speculate?

If I have a question - I ask my sales guy - Scott. He's the sort who if he doesn't know, he uses his resources throughout the dealership and gets back with me.

For others who don't have that advantage - get your answer and ask them to write it down for you.
