Mounted is fine, being lit up is the issue. Pretty sure you have to have a whip/flag out in the sand dunes area. But maybe not in a truly (50 states) street legal vehicle.

The rules and regulations have recently changed in Moab. Most are just common sense and/or common courtesy towards others.
yep, illegal in fl when driving on roadways but mounted is ok.

Just a heads up.

Be sure you are aware of where your going. I seen where some places require the whip to be on the front depending on the class of vehicle. Jeeps, Wranglers and Gladiators would fall into the class where the whip has to be on the front. Now this is just some OHV areas and definitely not all.

Also, Moab has outlawed lighted whips in town and residential areas. Pretty sure their still OK out on the trails. If Moab has done it, I'm sure other communities will eventually follow.
They're also actively closing off-road trails across MOAB. Better get your trips in while you still can. Politicians and eco-freaks are finally closing down the west coast "public lands" like they did here in the east.
- NY closed EVERY SINGLE OHV park in 2017 and made it explicitly illegal/impossible to register/operate a SxS on the road that has an engine that qualifies for "highway" use (700cc+ OR more than 2 seats) and WILL cite/tow if registered in PA/out-of-state and used on NY roads. They also made a law "liability insurance required for use ANYWHERE even if not registered) yeah, I'm not insuring my 1990 220cc 2wd utility quad for personal use on MY property.
- Heck, up until September last year (2025) PA made it illegal to operate your Jeep without doors on public roads/highways. They were the only state to do this, thankfully they got their head out of their asses.

For anyone looking for something a little more heavy-duty than the traditional thin whip setups, we actually have a thicker version coming soon that may be worth keeping an eye on:

XTREME 2.5D Dynamic Plasma ColorSHIFT LED Whip – 24”

Jeep Gladiator Whip lights? 1779311098056-8a

Jeep Gladiator Whip lights? 1779311103608-hv

Jeep Gladiator Whip lights? 1779311108391-1r

These were designed more around durability and visibility for actual off-road use rather than just being a flashy parking lot accessory. Reinforced construction, IP69K rated, quick-release base, vibration resistant, etc. They’re definitely built to take more abuse than a lot of the thinner whips out there.

We’ve opened up pre-orders on them now and should have more real-world content/testing footage coming soon.

Do they come with a spring mount, or a break away base?
I've seen my share of broken whips that were caught by branches. Including the new style fat whips.

I recently went on a trip and unexpectedly ended up in the dunes i did not bring a flag or my lighted whip along. I bought a cheap flag and whip and bungeed it to the front winch mount. I have had whip or flag mounts on vehicles various places from above the windshield to on the back middle above the tire carrier never thought about up front it did make the flag visible a lot sooner to approaching vehicles. i may add a mounting location on the front bumper along with power that is on with the running lights or off an aux switch to try it out since i run the flag or whip to increase safety from approaching vehicles not really for those behind me or for the look.
