ThanksHe's currently got 231,000 miles on the engine.
First cam was replaced at 52,000 miles
Another cam replaced at 200,000 miles
that sound right??????
The first one went 52,000 miles.
The next one went 148,000 miles.
He's got 31,000 on the second replacement
?????????
Reminds me too damned much of algebra classes and all of the parenthesis and what order to perform which process in.......... ugh.
That's a very long time on an oil filter.Engine is 100% original nothing replaced.
Touché .. valid point. I do 2 filters per oil change. I use wix filters they literally are 8-10 dollars. 1 with fresh oil 1 at 50% life . 10% life change pil repeat cycle. That's a very long time on an oil filter.
How much did that tranny replacement set you back, if you don’t mind sharing, and did you change the fluid or leave it on Jeep’s lifetime rec…132,038 , waterpump at 118k , transmission 130k

I am a data junkie also and would love to see that compiled, but the reality is it would almost be impossible compiling it just from internet postings even if you put up polls and survey posts as it only would capture those that wanted to input the data and would be skewed heavily towards people with negative experiences.I'm curious about the driving habits and OCI's (and grade/weight of oil used) of those that have had failures, and those who haven't.
I bought one with 6,000 miles on it out of a 24 Wrangler through LKQonline.com ( I called them after looking them up. It was 1450.00 plus 250.00 shipped direct to a dealer I had already talked to about doing the install. If they ship to your home cost 350.00 it arrives on Old Dominion truck lines .How much did that tranny replacement set you back, if you don’t mind sharing, and did you change the fluid or leave it on Jeep’s lifetime rec…
So many things on that list are subjective. Some might say I abuse mine, I say I baby it to some extent, however, I am NOT afraid of RPM and don't freak out if it sits at 4,000 RPM for a half mile.I am a data junkie also and would love to see that compiled, but the reality is it would almost be impossible compiling it just from internet postings even if you put up polls and survey posts as it only would capture those that wanted to input the data and would be skewed heavily towards people with negative experiences.
I am sure FCA has compiled data from their dealer network and those that have sought repair and warranty service through them and has an idea of where the issue lies but they are not coming off that anytime soon.
Just my two cents but from what I have seen from various post here and on the JL side is:
And so forth…………
- Those that follow the OLM have had issues
- Those that do a truncated shortened OCI have issues.
- Those that use correct grade 0W-20 with MS-6395 spec oil have issues.
- Those that use heavier grade oils have issues.
- Those that use boutique specialized off spec oil brands have issues.
- Those that use “Insert whatever brand oil here” have issues.
- Those that tow, heavy haul and flog it have issues.
- Those that baby it and drive like Grandpa have issues.
- Those that use specialize oil filter adapters (I.E. Baxter) have issues.
- Those that had their vehicle built on any day of the week, hour or shift have issues.
Point being with the list above is that there does not seem to be any magic sauce or potion a normal person can do to mitigate the issue and pretty much all variables have been tried by many.
That pretty much leaves either a design issue, manufacturing issue and/or material defect issue that FCA truly knows what it is.
That then leaves the question of why they do not fix it? I believe that any fix other than reigning in supplier material defect or manufacturing issues would require a in sequence design change but that design change would not be backwards compatible to fix to date manufactured engines. I speculate FCA has painted themselves into a corner on the this and any meaningful change would be a generational revision of the engine design.
I think GM is going through the same like thing with trying to address their L87 6.2L engine issues and their fix will be the next generation engine coming in 2027 for them.
This exactly. When installing "used", regardless of age, miles and so on, even if it's only got 15K on the clock, filter and fluid.Changing that fluid and filter IMHO is a must no matter the mileage if it is being replaced . One spec of dirt in there and bye bye baby goodbye that was all she wrote.
No towing but you have still increased weight and load on it.2020 JTR. 81000, right side head gasket. Waiting for final diagnosis on Friday. 37” tires w/ correct gearing. No towing.
Thank you! Appreciate your reply!I bought one with 6,000 miles on it out of a 24 Wrangler through LKQonline.com ( I called them after looking them up. Dealer had 1 stipulation I had to purchase new transmission cooler which I picked up for 58.00 from @AllMoparParts.com (best outfit around) and I had 1 stipulation regardless of Chryslers claims I would purchase a new filter and fluid and it was to be changed . They agreed and it took them about 4 days as I didn't realize but the 2 rubber brackets on back of transmission rear mount was shot. ( I would go ahead and get them if I was you it made a big difference ) .
Price of install and labor came to 1200.00 ( roughly) counting brackets .
I was going to endeavor to do it myself as I have done 99% of all the mechanical work on this rig. But my job just didn't let me have the time. Additionally the transmission TCM must be reset to original learning values and I hadnt never performed this feature and I was afraid to brick the TCM. I drove the wife's car (AWD) for 4 days. While it was being done and she hitched rides to work.

LKQONLINE.COM shows you pics of the donor vehicles with odometer, gives you the VIN so I was able to talk to the service dept at the dealership and confirm it compatability with my 21 Gladiator. After I had the confirmation I dropped the cash and the rest was history.
