Interesting, the front window on my top is clear with no tint, the tailgate window has a pretty dark tint though. My truck's previous owner put additional tint on the side windows and rear window - so I can't see anything out the back with the topper on, but that's because of the double-layer tinting on my truck, not the topper.
That’s the way it was supposed to be, but they apparently double-darked mine. Had it been removable, I would’ve asked Bestop to exchange the front window (I bought direct from them), but didn’t want the hassle of exchanging the whole topper.

Earlier this year I ordered a Bestop "Supertop for Truck 2". We have an LJ with a Bestop soft top and I was pleased with the quality of that product, so I went back to Bestop when I wanted a soft folding truck topper. After comparing several products and watching a bunch of videos from different companies and independent reviewers I picked the Supertop for Truck 2 and upgraded to the more expensive twill material.

The topper arrived in time for a camping trip and already I spotted some problems. First, the aluminum side rails arrived both damaged and with very poor quality of work. The cutouts to fit the frame look like they were done by a child with a dull bit in a hand drill - and those parts were then sent out for powder coating. The parts were also damaged prior to packaging for shipping, there was no damage on the packaging that would explain the gouges and marks on the rails. I filed a warranty claim and Bestop has said they will ship me replacements in a couple of months, as the parts are on back order. I will update with the condition of those parts when they come in.

Another problem is the installation instructions or the part labels were reversed, following the directions had the left rail on the right side of the truck and the right rail on the left side. It's possible to assemble the rails in this configuration, but the cutouts for the frame are in the wrong spot. The bolts to attach the frame to the truck are also too short by at least one inch. The topper is advertised as fitting the cargo management system rails, but the bolts provided don't reach to begin threading. I had to go find some bolts that would work at Lowe's just before they closed - of course they don't have the same flange bolt style that comes with the topper, so I also had to buy lock washers and fender washers.

Damage happens on factory floors, while I'm annoyed, this type of thing can happen and Bestop has agreed to replace the parts. What's more concerning is the quality of these cutouts. This looks like I did it at home with a hand drill, and certainly not the quality I expect for a $1,500 purchase.

This part was clearly dropped end-first on the ground, denting the aluminum so it no longer fits flush. The damaged part was then sent out for powder coating and shipped without anyone catching it.

Finally, the topper description on the Bestop website said that it came with "integrated storage" for the side panels, rear window, and rear bar. Mine didn't come with that feature. The feature is also demonstrated on the Bestop Youtube channel (screen shot below in case the video is removed - it is still up as of 8/7/25). Being able to wrap everything up in a neat bundle containing all the removed parts was a consideration in why I picked this top over the less expensive Softtopper or older model Supertop.

Here is my installation, you can see the replacement bolts on the clamps and the missing storage flap that should be attached below the front window.

While Bestop has agreed to replace the damaged side rails, their response to the wrong hardware was "glad you were able to resolve that".
In response to the missing storage system that was advertised on the Bestop website and their Youtube promotional videos has been the same from two people, one said " The Supertop for Truck 2 no longer comes with the flap to wrap the top when folded unfortunately, that change was made shortly after we released the top, I apologize for any confusion. " The other response from the warranty department said " Yes, engineering changed the design from the flap (old iteration), to tie down straps for the Supertop for Truck 2. " and included a technical drawing of the small velcro straps to go around the frame supports when folded.

You decide if you feel this is an adequate response to publishing and demonstrating a feature that is not part of the product, incorrect hardware, damaged components, and whether this experience sounds like it's appropriate for a $1,500 truck topper.
Reminder: Bestop has offered to replace the damaged and poorly manufactured side rails - as of this writing, they are still backordered 6 weeks and have not arrived.

I do not plan to pursue the matter of the missing storage system or, what I consider to be deceptive bait-and-switch tactics. Bestop have made their position clear that I'm expected to just deal with not getting what I thought I ordered. It's unfortunate, I had planned to purchase the compatible tonneau cover for this rail system but I don't feel I can trust Bestop quality or the accuracy of what they advertise. I will have to deal with the inconvenience of switching back and forth between the topper and the MOPAR tonneau I removed to make room for this installation.
I can confirm that everything above is accurate about the re-design. I had the exact same complaint about the storage option being removed, along with the lock that keeps the bows from moving, and received the same nonchalant response. I brought up the photos on the super top site that still show the bow lock and front storage wrap. I asked about a discount for not having the “advertised” parts of the top, but that didn’t go anywhere. They ultimately sent a return label, but couldn’t confirm if I had to pay the 20% restocking fee. My entire email exchange with Jorden at Bestop was some of the worst customer service I’ve had in recent years. I would also have gone with the Softopper if I had known (and yes, I know Bestop owns them too).

I can tell you that a 20% restocking fee for bait-and-switch would not be an option. Restocking fees are there to help merchants not take a loss on a customer making a mistake and ordering the wrong product, that's not the case here.

It sounds like I'm not the only one who has been affected by this and previous customers have brought this to Bestop's attention - but the incorrect features and specs remained on their promotional materials. This is sounding less and less like a mistake or miscommunication between engineering and marketing and more like "we don't give a shit".

I sent Bestop photos comparing their website inaccuracies to what I received. They didn’t care. However, looks like Bestop has finally removed all but 1 exterior photo from the website, so you can’t see the design differences. So, instead of showing the actual design, they just left 1 photo. Does Bestop even have a marketing team at all, that can take a few updated photos of their actual product?

I know FAS-Top is less well known, but the quality and service is great. I’ve had mine on since July 2021. Still great.

Sorry for your problems. I have been dealing with Bestop for over 2 months with an issue with my Sunrider that still has not been resolved. This is my first dealings with them and their customer service sucks. Last email response took 12 days and they are not taking calls at this time because they apparently are too busy. This has been very frustrating.

I'm curious - maybe you've said, what is the issue?

Yea I made a post about it here https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...on-for-those-who-have-one.98141/#post-1572325 . You did reply to it but I still don't have it resolved. Bestop replied to me on this site and contacted CS. It took them 4 days to reach out to me. I gave them more pictures and info and have yet to hear back from them. This is what they sent me which was not clear to me. I understand what the bulb seal is and its in perfect condition as I recently put conditioner on it but I have no idea what they meant about a rear halo.

Thank you for confirming the reinstallation, I want to ask when you took the sunrider off did you see anything off about that bulb seal at the rear halo? Do you have any photos of that rear seal or can get me a photo showing it so I can see if anything needs to be replaced?

This reminds me of the second issue I had recently with Bestop. I bought the sunrider sunscreen attachment, and had a big issue. The screws that came with the sunscreen were too short. I couldn’t use the lock washers with the brackets. I emailed them that they must have supplied the incorrect screws
but just crickets. No response. I had to get longer screws from the store to work properly. So frustrating and disappointing.

Yea that sounds like my experience for the last 2 months. I think I've received 5 responses over that time frame. You would think a company like that would have better customer service.

I've seen companies pull a similar move to delay things so you can't dispute things with the credit card company.

Well, that sounds familiar. Why ship with hardware at all if you just throw any random stuff in the box and call it a day?

Not cool. Come on @Bestop. Can’t we get these peoples’ issues at least addressed?

There was some consolidation in the off road market a few years ago with several companies being bought out by a VC firm. Was Bestop part of that and maybe that’s the reason for the demise of QC?
