I am new to the gladiator I bought a 22 overland gas v6 with 11 k on it and my only experience with jeep was an 07 liberty since I got it I have been watching this forum and now I am wondering after reading the horror stories if I made a mistake. I have studied the manual but what is ess and ibs? I do always turn off the autostop after I start the truck but what is all this other stuff you. guys are talking about. I did buy the warranty plan but I don't need to be stranded somewhere. Im 83 and have always done my own work but lifting the hood and looking at that mess and all the electronic crap i am overwhelmed
Don’t be worried. If a battery gets low, auto start stop is temporarily disabled. It’s literally a signal to replace your batteries. You don’t need to make changes to the system. Similar or identical systems are in hundreds of thousands of vehicles. Nothing weird here.

Electronic Stop/Start =EPA imposed where the engine shuts off at a stop light then restarts when you take your foot off the brake. Ibs =Intelligent Battery system.= it is a little tiny black sensor on the negative cable side at the terminal that monitors the power level of the Auxiliary Battery for the ESS and the Main battery. It is sandwhiched between both negatives and monitors the volts . It sends a signal to the PCM telling it to either charge the batteries ir to maintain and trickle charge the batteries.
Dont dread that simple stuff. You will easily learn all about it. Look at the pics in my post you will see the IBS its a tiny black sensor. It only takes a 3/8 ratchet and a 10mm socket to take it off and clean the terminals and the IBS contacts. Easy peasey lemon squeezy.

I was sure the voltage pic would put the wow factor over the top .. alas I failed .. why me why me ... I gotta go find some Elmers paste to go eat 😩 šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
That Harbor freight meter is rocking though! Great to have if you don't have anything else. Best thing about a Harbor Freight meter is when you break it, you don't lose any sleep and get another.

I prefer my Klein that has been working for decades and doesn’t fail.

Maybe I’m just irritated since I have a shop press from HF that failed on the first press, and now I need to return the stupid thing.

I have a handful of different models. In the past, I had a HF in every vehicle. Sometimes they just disappear or the leads are missing or the batteries corroded making it useless. I have upgraded the throwaways to a Fluke 101. Mind you they were only $40 each when I did this. I have lost a couple of those too. I think family members needed a meter and knew where to find one. Great to toss it the glovebox due to their size.

Totally agree. I have four I think. But we used to have boats, so there was a toolkit per boat. Now we have two extras because of that.

I have the 20t. It's maybe 10 years old. Is it out of fluid? Air?
Hydraulic fluid. Might be easier to swap out the bottle jack. But maybe there’s a way to refill it.

Mine is the 12. Never again. The piston mushroomed on the first use.

Every one I have seen had a small hole to refill. But then I've only ever had one bottle jack get low, and it's easily over 35 years old

I went with the 50 ton because of the AMC rear axles I work with. If the hub puller doesn't work or someone pulls the whole damned thing, backing plate and all, you almost have to use a press with some serious force.

Unless you have what I have, then you take it over to your electronics bench and attempt repairs.......
