I have a John Deere 1025R tractor with a loader, box blade, and pallet forks waiting to be delivered for my whopping .94 acre of land.

I'm impractical at times, just have to pick my places to be that way 😆
New or used? We’re trying to figure out the best way to find something like that for our house as we need to maintain our own roads with the neighbors. I’m hesitant with auctions as I don’t know enough about equipment to know if we’d end up with a maintenance disaster.

New.

Used sub-compacts aren't extremely common here, and the ones available are like $15-17K, and I'm not going to empty savings to buy that cash when I can use someone else money for a new one zero down / zero interest.

I also cross shopped Kubota and Kioti - the Kubota was gonna cost more as their insurance was three times as much. The Kioti was going to be within $100 of the John Deere with none of the dealer support.

So, settled on the JD. I want to build a parking pad (that will eventually have a carport cover), rebuild a couple driveways (and then maintain), do some dirt work in the yard, and a lot of other odd and ends. Also eager to use the pallet forks for all the heavy lifting and stop killing my back. I told the ole lady we can do our container garden on pallets this time and move them around in the yard to change sunlight exposure as needed or even pick the plants up to waste height to fool with them when needed lol. Anything to justify it.

I noticed the neighbors had a load of gravel dumped a month ago and fooled with spreading it with a shovel before giving up - maybe I'll go give them a hand.

To be fair, do I REALLY need this for an acre? No. Could probably pay someone and come out even over the course of the loan but what fun is that. We talked about getting a boat as I like fishing, or a small camper - but either of those won't get used like a small tractor will that we can jump on every day, even if its just to ride the kids around. I've had a lot of different toys, but never a tractor - so I'm sort of reliving my childhood dreams 🙃

I think about 2.5-3 years. The Falken MTs that came with my Mojave started getting slippery and I decided that I wanted to go to 35 ATs

If that's going to have the quick on and off mowing deck - you'll love it. Will never go back.
Unlatch the front hanger, knock the rear retainer bar down, back off the deck. Reverse process to put it back on.

I've moved literally TONS of dirt with my X739. I had a big twin-screw truck bring in something like 60,000 pounds of black dirt to reshape next to our driveway. I've used the heck out of that thing, moving dirt, hauling trees I've cut down to the south side of the yard for "processing" and burning, got the clam shell attachment for the front blade so it can actually haul things.

I wish it had a loader, but I had the blade already and it wasn't much more to get the 3rd party JD approved accessory. Won't lift things high, but will lift enough to haul dirt and rock and block.

BTW - my lawn tractor has the stock wheels, too.
Or wasn't that the original topic? I don't recall, now.

We bought a JD S140 last year to mow with - but I may get a deck for this 1025R later and get rid of the S140. Guess we will see where we land.

The X series is super cool. We went cheap with the rider not knowing what we wanted in the future - now we are jumping straight to a sub compact lol.

I'm going to start with a tandem dump load of fill dirt for my carport pad and any excess I'm gonna carry to the front yard and begin filling in this long ass low spot we have behind where a hedge row used to be.

Oh yea. Wheels. Or something. Maybe we need a lawn mower and tractor thread somewhere 😆

If you're not into farming, the Mahindra has been a work horse for me. I have a 5555 with a 6 foot cutter, box blade, backhoe, forks and bucket. It definitely take a load off of the back. No DEF!

Less than an hour, drove directly from the dealership to 4WP to purchase wheels and tires. I still have my wheels though, its just sitting in my garage :)

Three months. I pulled my stock Sport S wheels and upgraded to Rubi take-offs and BFG KOs. I'm happy with the results.

For me it was tires first over wheels. 35x11.5r17 Falken Wildpeak AT4’S. I’ll probably run stock wheels until I get sick of them.
That is how I roll . . . replaced the factory ATs with Mickey Thompson Baja Boss LT255/85R-17. Still running the factory Sport black steel rims 3 1/2 years later.

Since it's the business vehicle, still stock tires and wheels. So 3+ years. Once the stock tires need replacement I'll probably look into Rubi takeoffs.
