Not a knee jerk reaction. I love electrification. The tools they have now due to electrification are awesome. That doesn’t mean I want it or should be forced to buy one. It should be my choice what I spend my hard earned money on. I will never buy a PHEV or EREV vehicle. I’ve never wanted one, nor will I ever buy one. I will never buy a ford either for the same reason, because I don’t want one. Praise them all you want, and I wish you nothing but happiness with any of yours. Once again, it’s not something I want or need. That’s why they make chocolate and vanilla-choices.
No one is forcing anyone.....
Never say never. 8 or 9 years ago, I'd have said never, and been wrong.

The government was trying to force it. That makes me go against electric vehicles and hybrids even more. The other problem I have is that you can’t even work on your own stuff. There’s more to go wrong and a normal mechanic can’t even work on them. Just my opinion.

From a business standpoint it would make more sense to drop the manual and the 2dr entirely and invest in a 4xe with the new zf hybrid transmission with more range and power. The purists don't want to hear it, but that's the reality. Even half the purists I've gone back and forth with on the JL forum want to argue for stripped, 2dr, manual transmission, no infotainment, base model simplicity... but drive loaded JLURs. They pander for it but won't even actually live with all the shortcomings themselves.
I did. In 2007 I bought a brand new 2008 JK Wrangler X 2 door, manual tranny, manual windows and locks, base radio, vinyl seats, soft top. No frills at all. I bought it because it was a new Jeep for $18,500. I put 100,000 miles on it and sold it for $15,000.
Hell yeah I would do the exact same thing today if I could find a great deal like that on a new Jeep Gladiator.

Adjusted for inflation that $18,500 is $29k today. Haven't looked lately but absolutely saw sports brand new in 2023 when I was shopping for my mojave in that range.

That's beyond impressive. That's fiscal conservatism at its finest.

Too late, I already bought a used Mojave…with all the bells and whistles! 😂

I was lucky. I bought it extremely cheap, and all I upgraded were the tires, and the stereo system. It was still stock but was in immaculate condition when I sold it.

The price of vehicles have really skyrocketed in the last decade. The average American is now spending $13,000 per year on owning a vehicle. I'm trying to minimize that annual cost by keeping our current vehicles. I'm currently on the losing side of the game, but I hope to turn it into a winning strategy in the end.

So has owning a home. Fewer and fewer can afford even a "beginner home" these days.
And we have people paying for cell phone bills and having multiple thousand dollar phones.........

TVs are much cheaper - so some things have gone down, I guess.

So really, the whole world has changed. Not just vehicles.

But I look back and think - I got this Mojave X, loaded, many many more features and options than I could have imagined when I bought my 2020 Overland - and I paid the same price as I did back in 2019.

Fortunately, we bought our home 9 years ago when it was affordable, then refinanced at 2.6% a few years ago. Overall, we're doing pretty good, but we also have a lot of debt to pay off. If we stay on track, I think we can be debt free in 8 more years.

And no one is forcing it on you. I'm all for choice as well. Just any time electrification gets broughr up folks come outta the wood work to just proclaim how it doesn't belong in a Jeep or how someone or something is "cramming it down their throats" like most Stellantis lots aren't packed to the gills with V8s.

You can buy it here... and half the purists still don't. If you have no friends or hate the ones you have the 2dr can sort of work so long as you don't want to bring much of anything with you. If you want to bring camping gear, recovery gear, and food for a week you'll end up ditching the back seat all together. That's what many 2dr owners do from day 1. That's an awful large vehicle to have the functional passenger space of a miata. And we wonder why the take rate is only 8%...
I removed my Gladi back seat for a platform and storage... but I also don't have kids and don't like people...

Also Miatas are like mopeds, they are fun as hell but you don't want your buddies seeing you drive one.

I wasn't saying everyone needs more than 2 seats. You have the same passenger space as a 2dr JL with 3x the towing capacity, 10x the cargo space, and much better stability on and off road. All at a similar cost and even similar fuel economy. At least a moped is cheap compared to a full size motorcycle. A half size Jeep at full price and we wonder why they don't sell.

I may or may not have attempted to recruit everyone I know into a roving, Mad Max style, Honda Ruckus gang about a decade ago.

49cc's of fury.
