When I do my oil I always drive home and then park it . Leave it sit for several hours. Supposedly after 35min. The oil that is up in the oil cooler will drain back on its own.
On any engine, oil that's in oil galleries will eventually drain back down. There's no magic number of minutes, it's going to depend on the oil, the temperature of said oil and other factors.
There will always be oil that will not make it back down as well, trapped in oil galleries that don't run downhill into the pan. You can take apart an engine after a week, and still leave a mess of oil all over the floor if you don't prepare for it.
I don't know where that magic 35 minutes comes from - but I can imagine.......................

Me - change it when hot. More oil is going to run out faster. I will leave it open longer than many so that probably adds up to 35 minutes LOL

Oh thats the plan, in writing. Not expecting much from the dealer at this point. Trying to calm down while I wait for the tow so I'm not escorted out of the building once I show up.
If your vehicle is still at the dealership for repairs, please send us a private message with the last eight characters of the VIN and mileage so our team can assist.

I lost faith in my dealership after the last free oil change. The tech asked me to open the hood and then told me ā€œYou need to stay in the vehicle sir!ā€
Should've said you need to learn how to open a hood. I swear I would have shut the hood and left .

No question. I’d have been done at that point.

Like I said, my LAST free oil change. I’m back to doing it myself now. To their credit, they do have cameras and show you that the drain plug and the filter housing are installed and tightened properly.
