My 2023 Jeep Gladiator with 32,500 miles, the oil pump is staying in the high pressure mode. Normally between idle and 3000 RPM the oil pump is in low pressure mode and the pressure is ~30psi. Once you get over 3000 RPM the oil pump switches to high pressure mode and the pressure goes to ~80psi. Right now, the pressure is 77psi at idle and stays high. The strange thing is there is no check engine light. I change oil every 5K with synthetic oil and factory filters. I suppose I'll take it to the dealer, but I'm not sure if they will actually do anything since it has no check engine light displayed.

I would think that they would have to fix it. When at the higher pressure, the engine should also be using the higher valve lift, when under 3k RPM.

not really.

The PCM can trigger high valve lift even at lower RPM if it senses torque is required.

the two aren't connected.

high volume is the default startup mode. It's possible the pump solenoid is stuck. They should be able to determine if it's REALLY that high and not just a sending unit issue, or if the pump is stuck in high volume or default mode. It's got a part that pivots on a pin depending on a solenoid position.

I see a lot of solenoid failures in our fleet of Promasters but I'm yet to see one stuck in high pressure mode. Usually they won't go into high pressure mode.

I’m pretty sure know what’s bound to happen if the oil pressure gets too low, especially when calling for high at higher rpm’s. But not quite sure how bad too much pressure can cause, other than leaks?

Extra load on the engine, dropping mpg by about 0.03965

Seriously, though, it is extra wear on the drive chain and gears. A lot of people with old-school engines believe more is better, insist on 30-40 idling and 70-80 on the highway then gripe about drive gears going south.
It's a load on the pump, premature wear would be the issue. Short term, probably not a big deal.. But I'd not want to run that way. Heck, I run my 4.0 at about 10 lower RPM and 30-40 on the highway.
The rule of thumb before all of the fancy phasers, servos and multiple lift valves and such used to be 10 psi for every 1,000 RPM.

Are you using factory grade OW-20

Pressure gauge reads zero PSI at zero RPMs.

I use 0W-20 and factory filters.

Also I don't think the ESS is working either. Don't know if it is related.

Even though there is no CEL lit have you scanned it for codes?
What does it do when you accelerate hard, does it go into limp mode or does it pull to redline?
