Where can I find the option for a 4.0L?
100 less horsepower in a truck that barely has enough as is? The gladiator isn't a 3500lb tj, you'd be lucky if it would even maintain freeway speed up hill... without a trailer.

I thought it was stupid to even have the Overland name at launch instead of Sahara when everybody understood it was basically the same as the Wrangler Sahara in trim. This looks like they are correcting for that.
Always thought “Overland” was a weird name for the more street version of the models. If you want to call one an “Overland” maybe put over landing things on it? Off-road tires, bed rack, heavier springs, etc.

And 3,500 lbs is a light TJ. They easily go over 4k lbs with 35s and other mods.

How many got heavy mods like that when they were newer.
Were 35s a big deal, say, back in 1999? (or was everyone partying like it was 1999)

I am willing to bet the name "Overland" surveyed well with the Range/Land Rover suburban buying demographic.

My recollection is 30’s and 33’s were the 90’s version of 37’s and 40’s today.

Not many, but still a few. I remember being one of the few modded TJs at Silver Lake sand dunes around 2000. But by the end of the TJ era, 35s were becoming common.

Here’s an old pic of a few of us with TJs with 35s on 2 of them and 37s on the red one on the left.

Jeep Gladiator 2026 Gladiator JT is getting a 35's option and other stuff IMG_3264

33s were the big tires on TJs for a long time around here. Occasionally someone would show up with a set of 35s. Seems like the LJ guys were more likely to be 35s then the TJ guys. 37s or occasionally bigger started becoming popular once they figured out how to highline the flares. But you had to be willing to chop on the Jeep to do that.
Although there were always a few that jacked them to the sky. Or that guy that was willing to hack an almost new Jeep for bigger tires.

It cost a lot of money to run 35s too. Especially, if you wanted something with good drivability that wasn’t breaking parts.

A couple hundred pounds is negligible
On our 2013 wrangler jku, taking the top off, doors, the thing became a rocket. Sorry, but a "few hundred pounds" on these jeeps is absolutely noticeable.

Like there is a big difference with 3-4 adults in the jeep, or just me by myself. My JT uses 8th gear with just me in it, 3 other adults, it almost never touches 8th gear. lol

We had 33" super swampers, 3 inch body lift on a YJ back in the late 90s, 33's were big, but my buddy's big body bronco was running 35's back then. But that seem to be the normal until mid 2000s, I had 38's on a 12" lift on my 2004 2500, started seeing some jeeps with 40's mid 2010s.

But still, 33, 35 is still I think the best trail road, jeep trail, forest road, overlanding tire. Easier to work with, smaller, less weight is what you want on them longer overlanding trips.

Like some of you have not had to change tires, repair, or have done some real overlanding trail drives and it shows. :giggle: lol The reality is, most people with 38's 40's... maybe hit up the local off road places every now and then, and that's about it.

Im telling you, there is a lot of offroad trails in America, Canada, etc.
