If Ohio still had emissions testing I would move south most likely.

In Tennessee, we don't have a state income tax.

State and local sales tax is 9.75% on just about everything, including cars at time of purchase.

Property taxes on our 4200 square foot house on 1/2 acre lot is $4700 a year plus another $500 a year for the vacant 1/2 acre lot that we own next door.

I hate property taxes.
Tell me about it. 3200sqft .33 of an acre. Over 12k a year in property taxes. Yay.

You make up for 0 in some places by having double the property taxes as here.............
We also have no emissions checks and haven't had any vehicle inspections since the 1970s.
Your vehicle registration is also a bit higher than here - I pay a bit under that for a 25.

Part of what states deal with is size and population density.......... when there's fewer people in 100 square miles and you have to drive 30-60 minutes to get anywhere, there's a whole lot of roads that have to be built. (and people today expect them to be perfectly spotless all winter long and bitch if it takes someone over an hour to clear their street - not kidding.)
you have not been to NH every thing in NH is an hour away nothing is close look up the white MT's it is a very much like MT but out east and some towns dont even have 70% paved roads

7% in Des Moines and other places in Iowa.

I bet part of it is the cost of getting the alligators for the meat for those balls
If you see a wild boudin without balls then you know what happened.

I didn't see my State listed soo
New Hampshire

0% state Income tax

0% sales tax

0 bottle deposits

$6500 property tax - 2800 sq/ft on 2 acre with decks and a 14 x 18 ft out building

$600+ this year (goes down every year) on a 23 gladiator Vehicle registration ($55.20 to state so the kids get the books and the town does some voodoo magic math that pays for roads and cops) I itemize so that's a write off

in January State vehicle inspections and emissions go away

State owns the booze stores, it's cheap and we drink for the kids!! (booze for books! no an official state slogan but we use it)

Now there is no free lunch:
9% Dinning
9% Hotels / Camping

The business tax is high and some other rich guy taxes like dividends but I don't live that life lol

Auto insurance is inexpensive since its not required but then again neither are seat belts required for adults (they get you for comprehensive however)

oh yeah life free or die isn't just a motto NH is a constitution carry and concealed state (yep no permit other then 2A) and if you pay the fed stamps you get the fun stuff
Also NH.
Minor correction. The Meals & Room tax dropped to 8.5% a few years ago.

Also, no tax on premium cigars (ie real cigars, not the little ones from the gas station), and we get paper or plastic bags at the grocery store for free. AND we just did away with inspections for non-commercial motor vehicles.

The property taxes generally are not so high north of Concord.
Mine just went up for about $2,900/year for 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths with 2 smaller outbuilding on almost 7 acres.
Also pay $59/yr OHRV fee for my UTV, which is still way better than the $116 nonresident fee for Maine, which my is right next door.

What really matters in the grand scheme of things is overall tax burden, which is how much of your income goes to all the various local, state, and federal government taxes.
In that regard NH is one of the lowest in the country.

Alaska is only number #1 by virtue of the permanent dividend fund they get from the oil companies. Take away that $1700 check everyone got last year and they would drop a fair amount in the ratings.

I also consider what I get for my money. And as it takes more roads to get across this state, that has to figure in. NH doesn't need the long ribbons of concrete or see the trucks hammering our roads getting from CA to NY or TX to MM.
It takes a lot more to maintain the every mile farm to market roads here as well.
Sorry, can't compare that easily.
Tourism figures in as well ....we have none.

I'm about 5 miles from the Armor Ditch, though as is typical for around here, ya can't get there-uh from here-uh. So it's about a 25-30 minute drive.
If anyone wants to wheel there (except for events it's a members only offroad park) I have a VIP membership and can bring a guest or 3 with their own vehicles. I know better than to take my daily driver back there, but that's what the UTV and the YJ are for.

Well, to that end NH also has the best taxpayer ROI. So the taxes we DO pay go more to the things that need to be done, and less to the layers of bureaucracy needed to do them. Big win in my book.

But I'm not trying to start a peeing match which state best, just trying to hopefully explain the property taxes are only a tiny part of the big picture. And while NH has a high state average on property taxes (And averages are just that; averages. My $2900 taxes get averaged with the $20-30k those multimillion dollar waterfront mansions we have so many of pay), the big picture is we still get to keep more of what we earn than many other people, so I for one am not upset about my property tax bill.

I'm about 25 mins from there... I have Tim's original JT flares on my gladiator. I have been to Harley Jack's a bunch but still haven't wheeled his property yet

So if you've seen Tim's JT you understand why I don't take mine back there, lol.
This was us last Sunday. I think this was right before my buddy in the RZR stopped and was just sitting there in front of a huge mud pit with a steep rocky exit. So I asked over the radio if he was turning around, and the reply was "F**k it, we both have winches!", lol.

Iam guessing New Hampshire has less Californians than Iowa does so in my peeing match, New Hampshire wins.

Yes, but we have more from NY and MA. MA is so bad, everyone here calls them MAssholes.
