I've never found mine to have any issue carrying itself around. I rate it as 'acceptable'.

Connect any weight to it though, and you can tell it's just 'behind the times'.

My other driver is a 2015 Camaro SS though, so it's not as though I'm unaware of what more horsepower is like.

Engine wise the Gladiator is the new previous gen Taco.
I dunno....I can compare a jt to a Silverado with LS engine with the same loads and same roads and the JT does the same with better mpg. The LS had to wind up to 5,000 rpm on the hills on I80 while my JT kept it at 3,300-4,000 rpm, same car behind me on the same highway same time of year.
The problem is people can't get used to the RPM=HP thing in modern vehicles. Yes a Honda can keep up with an SC360 but has to at double the RPM
People today are scared shitless of RPM

I'm not against winding the truck out to do work, but that doesn't change the numbers. The Gladiator is underpowered compared to anything in its segment (even to the Nissan Frontier - the only other NA engine in a midsize truck).

I'd still rather listen to an LS do work than this cam eating sewing machine in my Gladiator. That's why I don't own two 3.6L's, but I DO own two LS V8's 😂

And don't take me too seriously Bill, I tell the ole' lady all the time her next ride is gonna be a 3.6L Durango or Cherokee L. I like the brand. I don't mind the engines.

But I'm not likely buying another 3.6L Gladiator. Hmm. Doesn't mean I won't keep mine for a long time. Remains to be seen....

I'll probably buy a Ford and then send pictures of it to @Stan H daily because I know how much he loves them 😂

You're probably comparing to an older LS that had a 4 speed.

No lie, LS motors are excellent. Pairing them with a four speed was not 😂

I don't think Bill's was a four speed though...but I digress.

2011, 6 if I recall
When I called and asked, they said it had to wind up, let it, that's where the power was.

You said it all right there: "People today are scared shitless of RPM." I would add, to a lesser degree, people are scared of turbo chargers.

Much of this goes back to the days, as you can certainly attest, when big displacement engines that ran at relatively low RPM's ruled the roost. Guys put turbo chargers on things and the engines blew up. They were not designed for the pressure. Turbos got a bad name. The same goes with RPM's. Engines that you pushed to 4,000 RPM's or more sounded like a jet engine taking off. Not the smooth "hum" you heard from the newer Japanese stuff when pushing towards the redline.

Actually, I think it's a generational thing.

I had a whole turbo kit laying here for my LS Chevy truck.

Sold all the parts because other life things were more important.

Damn shame 😂

That’s kind of sad if people are scared shitless of RPM. Mash that right pedal and let it rip. Clean some carbon out. 😁

The V8 rumblings is what gives a lot of vehicles their soul.
Without that incredible V8 sound rumbling under the hood, I just never get that same feeling or enjoyment out of a little turbo 4 or 6 banger under the hood.

I could care less about the screaming little small displacement 4 banger turbos, be it they are built bullet proof or still a POS, I still don't like them either way.
No soul to them.

Just IMO.

At some point people will have to accept that the V8 is old stuff and buying on sound alone won't work. Eventually, the V8 will die - it's going to happen at some point, especially on light trucks - midsize trucks.
There's little point to them other than sound - and I was raised on V8s when they were true muscle cars and the big blocks and REAL hemis were a thing.
