You told your Jeep you didn't want it to do all that stop/start nonsense. It doesn't listen and does the same thing over and over again, making you madder each time. Your wife doesn't understand the problem. Maybe there is an analogy in there someplace.
Nah, it doesn't make me madder each time. The first time is shuts down, I do the "dammit" (because I forgot to hit the button on start up) and hit the kill button.

To me, having to do it every time is illogical. This is a feature I didn’t want nor need in the first place. Wearing out the starter makes no sense either.
So I pulled 42 and added inline interrupt as well.
And yes I still use a button to start.

Just disconnect the negative cable on top of the main battery that leads to the aux battery and remove fuse 42.
This will not prevent ESS from operating. It simply removes the aux battery from the circuit and prevents the self-diagnositcs associated with it from illuminating the warning light on the dash. I thought the same thing initially, but when I did this, the ESS still functioned and I could hear electronic noise in the speakers when the vehicle would start via the ESS. Not sure why Jeep couldn't figure out a way to filter electronic noise/spikes during ESS events with a single battery like most other manufacturers.

Your wife has a point.

I've never been bothered by start/stop at all, I don't get the fuss. Honestly kind of like the feature.

But I live in city metro and encounter traffic and long stoplight cycles. The truck goes vroom every time I hit the gas pedal regardless so I just don't understand the issue.

I often forget to hit that button and as others have said just blame myself for that. Depending on where i am driving if there are long traffic lights or waiting for a train at a crossing it may save a little. It may just be me but it does seem to not shut down if you do not hold the break hard after stopping let up a bit.
Someone always mentions how it wears out the starter prematurely of course using something causes wear but it is it built to stand up to it or not. it would be good to hear about anyone that had a starter fail and if they leave autostop on or always turn it off.

I've read all the pro's about the ESS. A much heavier duty starter, the engine is fine, no issue of "no oil pressure" on restarts, it's designed for it, yada-yada... That's all fine and dandy, I just don't want it at all. My Jeep, My Rules.

Will I do a permanent bypass in the future ? Most likely. After I put more time and miles on it.

I think ESS will fade away, it's not the Earth Saver of our brainwashing. Electric vehicles are already fading away. Both of them are examples of "good on paper, poor in practice".

When it starts warming up in TX, you won't have to worry too much about the ESS. Th HVC system will keep it from kicking in.

She is. 100% and I freely admit that without concern. And I don't feel like that's a ding on my Man Card in the slightest. I'm retired bringing in zero dollars until I start collecting Social Security. She retired from oil and gas after 38 years (accounting...so she's good at managing our money) and she got a fat pension, 401k, etc., invested it well during her tenure, AND went and got another job (she's only 57, didn't want to retire) with another pension, 401k, etc.... She told me to retire, she was tired of me working days and nights for chump change with no bennies. I am 100% healthy and she wanted me to be that way for when SHE decides to retire so we can do things. Like I said in my first post, it's hard to deny her logic.

I am not a believer in the man has to be the breadwinner. I'm a believer in the one that brings in the most to the table is the breadwinner. The one that handles money the best, does it. That's her. I have no shame in admitting that, my ego ain't that large, the 1940's "Man of the House" attitude was a long time ago. To espouse that I have to control everything because I'm "The Man" is myopic.

Works for us and we've been happily married 35 years this April, together 38 years.

Your mileage may vary.
I too am “retired” with a working spouse. The healthy part is kinda not wholly there, but it works for us too. Being a stay at home dad is pretty awesome. I do have 100% VA disability coming in and we’re fairly well invested but she wants to keep working for now. If it makes her happy then I’m all for it. Building up that nest egg so when she “retires” we can do an animal foster thing that she’s always wanted to do. Full on multiple animal type building and the whole 9. Dogs cats horses goats turtles you name we’ll go for it. After getting my arse kicked for 20 years in various segments of the Marine Corps I’m enjoying the time to be home and do stuff.
