I have some Alpine upgrade speakers for sale locally but I have also wondered if I could get more useable sound output from some small outdoor speakers. it seems the upgraded Alpine molded plug n play speakers are rather small. even though I can get some for $200 I am hesitant.

I have an amp in the rear but its for sub. I can with some extra wire and maybe a splitter add a 2nd amp or just change to a multi channel amp. . this might be enough to solve this enemic stereo in this jeep. By adding some small'ish outdoor speakers. maybe zip tied to roll bar/ speaker bar .

I just dont want to spend over amount of time installing what can only be minimal improvement with the alpine upgrades. the amp is going to matter most.

If you go this route it’s probably better to go to the multichannel amp. Install will be cleaner and less hassle. When it starts getting technical the problems start to mount and it’s harder to chase down simple gremlins. I haven’t run outdoor speakers but did run a JVC tractor type stereo in my last Jeep.

You can't just "add speakers" sadly as the factory radio "looks for" a specific impedance (ohm rating) of the circuit. PAC had to redesign their OEM integration unit because of this (hence the R.2 version).

As Bandit said, you'd need an amp, a integration module (some lower cost units work, but you get what you pay for), wiring (power, ground, and audio signals), and speakers (also adapter plates/pods, pigtail harnesses to prevent cutting stock harness, and polyfil).
- This will provide the best possible output from your speakers, both total volume AND quality at lower volumes.

My current audio build sheet says it will cost me around $3000 for all parts: subwoofer, sub box (custom), wiring, 7-channel amp, 3 sets of speakers, integration module, and all accessories. No labor included as I'm doing it all myself. But I'll be able to drive doors/tops off on the highway and FEEL the music, not just fill in the blanks like I do with the windows down/top open/volume at 35.

ok. as I said the jeep has an amp. its a sub amp but I can add a full range amp or take out the sub and put in a bigger multichannel amp. I was never talking about just adding speakers with different ohm loads on the factory amp. I have an amp installed. power will come from the amp.

having said that. I watched a video last night of a guy that pulled down the speaker bar behind the head. he cut it up and put 6x9 MB Quart speakers in there . MB is a decent speaker but speakers are designed to operate with space requirements. yes the mod worked but the speaker was not installed in a space that was spec unless those speakers required almost no air space. yes they will work but not sound their best. the factory speakers are what ? 4inch ? but the compartment they are in is more suitable for a 4inch driver.

the reason I said Outdoor speakers is because you can find them relatively small in their own sealed enclosures and able to handle more power than some of these 4inch drivers .

I can buy some outdoor speakers for less than $100 and mount them in the jeep. or I Can buy some $400 plug n play speakers that sound only slightly better than stock.

one thing also. having the better speakers in the back completely throws off the way it sounds. so you have to move balance to favor the front to make it sound the way its supposed to. that might be unavoidable though because ive only seen small 4inch speakers in the front half of the jeep.

I used to install aftermarket systems in all my cars . only reason I am thinking at all about it is the factory system in here is weak and someone has already done the hard wiring for amp. changing the amp is easy

I do not . I was just looking at all these plug n play options and they want a lot of money for very small drivers. only so much that can improve. stepping up in size is option but im trying to source other options .
