HA! i was 2 seconds away from posting this, then i saw yours. Watch this video of a midsize truck install. Making me rethink if I want a decked setup. Looks like so much unused space.......I'll have to measure the square feet of space it takes up, vs the amount of space in the sliding drawers.

or, custom, in your choice of material - probably plywood!
Now that is using up every bit of space! Would have to do it out of treated if it'll get rained on that's one nice thing about the decked setup. No design, no frustration. Made out of a plastic that is tough, wont bend break (with normal use), won't have to be replaced. For a truck with sealed topper, I'd say custom plywood boxes are awesome, i'd line the boxes with the same material he used on the drawer fronts.

I can tell you that this will be heavy.
I built (With the help of one of my guys who is a great trim carpenter) a storage drawer set for the back seat area of my F-350 for my truck camper.
These things are for sale and cost about 2 grand so we decided to build one for ourselves. It cost me about $500 in parts and turned out great but it is heavy.
I would not build one out of plywood if it was left exposed to the elements.

its just a shame it doesn't utilize the space more.

That’s the thing I’m also hating a bit - but I realize that a lot of it is structure and strength... tho I wish you could do custom heights.

They should have a latch cubby up front in the bed for up to a 40" tire. Great spare solution, have extra storage, and still have use to your truck bed.

I’ll probably be going with the Decked System
decked system is only 200 lbs for a 5'2" colorado setup.

gotta do some quick math to estimate the plywood option.....

You can also use plastic. It’s available in 4'X8’, 2"X4", etc, but it’s really heavy and more flexible... too much when heated... and you must choose the optimal screw thread for strength...

And after all that screwing around (pun intended) it'll probably be worth getting the decked system and sacrificing the maximizing space issue.

This is what I keep coming back to... do I want to screw around (pun also intended) or just buy a thing that will give me like 85-90% of what I want and need?

and it has a bottle opener! and is more water proof than a heavy marine plywood custom thing I create. I probably have enough projects, UGH. Those waterproof D boxes and tool boxes also look sweet.
