I thought my garage door opener button was broken at first, but found that it only works when the vehicle is in RUN mode. Is this really the case? The manual states that the opener is powered by the vehicle's 12V battery, so shouldn't this always have power? It states that in the programming phase the vehicle needs to be in ON/RUN, but nothing about just using it normally. I always open my garage door before starting the vehicle because of the fumes. My dad taught me that. Dad's usually right :)

I can't answer your question, but I always open my door as I enter the garage.

Im pretty sure it only works in run.

Makes sense when you think of a vehicle with no doors or roof.

When going to the vehicle in my garage, I always open with the opener on the wall. Occasionally might miss it and have to open in the vehicle.

It’s also safer for it to only work in the run or accessory position. This keeps thieves from opening your garage door if they gain access to your Jeep.
Probably the best answer, especially for this vehicle. I've just never had a vehicle that acted like this.

Guaranteed FCA would get sued after the first home invasion took place because the door opener worked without the fob

This is standard practice for Homelink openers installed in any convertible. I’ve had more than a couple...

I had one of those models to open a garage. Unfortunately, I don't remember which one, because I had to move after a while. I lost my remote control and was looking for a way to take control of a button or phone. I was helped by this article https://github.com/epkboan/myhome/tree/master/garage_door. Perhaps it will help you to amplify the signal, but I'm not sure how to write earlier because of these manipulations you may not have the warranty.

Yeah, for security reasons at your home.

That's fair, but there's no reason it couldn't work as long as the fob is in range. Maybe it works if you have the proximity unlock feature.

You can put the JT into Run mode without starting the engine, then open the door, then start up the JT.
Cheers

Nope. Mine only works in the "run" position.

And you have to have the key fob in the JT to engage Acc/Run mode or start the engine. Proximity locks only works on the door locks. Remote start will start the engine, but not put the vehicle in Run mode, which still needs to be done by pressing the start button with the key inside the Jeep. I tried putting the JT in Run mode standing in the Jeep’s door reaching in, with the Fob in my Pocket, no dice, dash displayed a message saying the Key Fob was not detected.
Cheers

It's only meant to work when the car is on so thieves can't break into your car in the driveway and gain access to your garage and house. Makes sense as most Jeeps are outdoor cars or may have the doors and roof off when parked outside.
