No worries! Yea, wish I could say I've had fun with them, but its a pain, it's expensive and it's taking forever these days. You probably know more about it than I do. I defer to the legal types on all that stuff - I just wanna make things.

question, only because I cannot see the intrusion, why not trim the plastic bedrail caps so the rack fits flush to the bed? would that not also allow for a bed cover while the rack is still mounted?

2: I dont think your idea would work the way you think it would with most cover systems

This photo shows just the kind of situation I want to avoid, at nearly any cost . That being all that wind resistance above the roof line, and the requirements to remove/install/remove/install the tent every time any height adjustment wanted .
Now IF the rack had a strong 12volt multi adjustable lift mechanism ? I'd consider paying ~$3K for it .

"NEW IDEA" -- ? -- While looking and looking at SKT's JT (post 784) a "light" flashed in my brain . . . another mild stroke ? NO ! Roof Rack silly , PICTURE THIS while IMAGINING these ;

Now these are UNEEK (Australian import via Florida Distributor) versions of Gobi's style ! What I'm proposing is for the Gladiator AND in order for Gladi-Owners to, For Specific Example, utilize any number of the FOLDING cloth CAPs such as Bestops, CAN-BACK or SoftTopper, a ROOF RACK over the BED should be able to be Folded Back then put back in place .

This requires the Pivot-Point Mounting ON the REAR Bumper, just as is done already on the JK & JL . The FRONT Mounting -I'm proposing - should be Mounted on the SIDEs, JUST Forward of the lowest part of the Rear Fenders ~ 1/2 way between the rear roof pillar . Mounted Firmly & Strongly to the underside FRAME ( sort of in a similar fashion to a rock rail ) and bolstered/rubber padded at a 2nd location further up the side . Option #2 would be to take it all the way to the A pillars like on a JL ? that makes it a rather LONG Rack and would need bolstering to eliminate sag, Not in favor of #2 .

What do you think ? Should I take a nap and pretend this never happened ? OR . . . ! ! ! ? Personally I think it's a doable & functional proposition that actually has useful purposes .

It's an interesting concept... is the rack the height of the cab, but the entire length of the vehicle? or just the height of the bed?

Well, you've confused yourself . . . the RACK can be whatever a Manufacturer chooses to do with it ! Now, that means - FOR MY TASTE - that I prefer the RACK to be about HALF the Height of the Hardtop (or soft top if that is how your buying) .
Therefore IT can NOT be Full Length to the windshield A-Pollars . Follow ? But the NICE thing about this IS you can fully utilize the BED for whatever -- a place for the "shorter folks" to sleep (kids, wives, pets or . . . ?) . Of course Me being Me, I would attempt to sleep there too, but with the tailgate down and in some sort of tent or . . . one of my other ideas posted in other Threads ! With the 'FLIP-BACK RACK', as mentioned IF you opt for one of those FOLDING BED CAPS ( I'm liking this idea ) then having the ability to Do That, allows you to deploy the FOLDING CAP then Put back in place the RACK . I suggest using the RACK for lighter camping items -- center of gravity & easy of use in Flipping it ! If your items stored up top are SECURED properly shouldn't have to "worry" about "spillage" ! ? Does that help or should I hire a videographer and make a tutorial video ? . . . , yes please ?

infringement risk for whom? if @BuiltRight sells these and I buy one, and he gets sued, I suppose its possible I could lose my payment, but he's been selling these for a while on F150s and won a Sema award for them, so I doubt he's infringing.

If this other company is infringing on Builtright, that won't affect me getting my product unless the entire legal process to stop them from infringing halts all his sales, which would be a bad business decision and he seems like a smart guy.....

Im confused. So if you want to use the soft topper, you would unfold the rack and it would sit backwards and point up to the sky like on this photo?

But if you wanted the rack, then you flip it forward, but have to fold down your soft topper because the rack is only half way up the rear window?


I think a rack that goes over the cab of the JT, like this one does on the wrangler, would be sweet, because then if you want to take your top off, you could flip the rack back, take top off, or open up the soft-top.

But then when you want to start hauling you just flip the rack down.

Damn I need to take some welding classes and then get a nice tig welder........
