Absolutely not true - the federal Govt invested our taxpayer money and lost $10.2 billion of our monies because they sold the shares at a loss. But, Ford just took the grants as a loan and no investment from the Govt, they weren't partly owned by the state like socialism for GM/FCA but Ford is still paying it back but no loss.

Here is a link that explains it:

https://www.thebalance.com/auto-industry-bailout-gm-ford-chrysler-3305670

Clearly, I hated the bailout and they should have just let them fail and the market recover like any free market capitalist economy should :).

Actually, it is true. Ford took money too, AND were the slowest to pay it back. From a Forbes article:

"...but with the political season in full swing, the two presidential candidates have put the auto industry bailouts back in the public eye, at least through the November election. Yet there’s only one Detroit automaker still in hock to U.S. taxpayers and – guess what? – it’s not GM or Chrysler.

Ford Motor owes the government $5.9 billion it borrowed in June 2009, the same month GM filed for bankruptcy...

And the Energy Department doled out billions more to Ford and others to preserve auto-making jobs in the U.S. while steering the industry toward cleaner vehicles."

Right, they are paying it back but what I was saying is that there was not an incurred loss, whereas the Govt. in effect we lost $10.2b by helping out GM and Chrysler - not to mention they practically forced the take over of Chrysler by Fiat... by shoving down the EPA regulations and clean energy initiatives. The whole push towards clean energy has cost us a lot of $$$, don't even get me started on the solar energy subsidies... I am all for clean energy and alternate fuels but it has to be done efficiently and fiscally responsibly - that means it can't be done by the single most inefficient organization in the whole world which is the Govt LOL. The Govt can barely function by itself and they can't run an enterprise in any country that hasn't resulted in failure or extreme inefficiencies... Anyways, that's just my opinion... I have been meaning to get the data on the Govt spending that is really easy to read and follow, which is free for us to obtain btw, in order to see how much we waste but I haven't gotten around it :). We certainly waste a lot of money on all kinds of shenanigans in the name of higher morality but in reality everyone's just pushing their own agendas without solving any real problems. #endRant LOL

Seriously though, Rivian is all marketing at this point. It will be years, if not decades, for any small startup to beat established manufacturers at their own game.
But Ford just invested 500 Million into Rivian. That should help them out.

1/2 billion dollars would help anyone out! Seriously though, looking at the burn rate at Tesla, even that much $$$ doesn't guarantee success. Ford, most likely, will buyout Rivian or sell its stake right before its crash.

It is so odd to me that this is "news". A rendering of a rumor about a truck that might be coming out in 5 years. Talk to me when there is an announcement.

Even if someone wanted that truck, 2024 is still so far away that a lot of buyers will be in and out of their Gladiator before the Bronco truck would even arrive. (And by 2024 it better have a strong hybrid powertrain option.)

I'm not the first to say it, but I'll agree that Ford will probably be buying Rivian by 2024.

As much as I love the JT, I'd personally prefer to have a fun SUV that can tow. We already have a 2015 Durango Citadel, so the Durango SRT is out (couldn't get the wife on board). I don't really need a pickup, I have trailers; an SUV keeps my gear drier and more secure. Don't need a big SUV; I have a Suburban 2500 that I'm keeping. I want a fun vehicle that can tow for daily use.

I love the concept of an open air vehicle that can tow a substantial amount (5K) relatively comfortably. So the JT looks good to me. I'll do some light off-roading with it. But the more Jeep has problems with the JT release, whether actual or perceived, the more I'm looking for more info about the Bronco and it's variants. Never been a Ford guy though. And Toyota is determined to remain dull as hell. I'm just a guy who weighs his options and spends carefully.

But put the 5.7 in the JT and it would be: "Bronco who??". The color delays are also opening the door for me to consider other vehicles.

That piece of shit will get exactly 0% of Jeep owners to buy it and will likely cost more than a Gladiator. Then comes the Ecoboost valvetrain failures and 100,000 mile turbo replacements.

They keep threatening to polish the Ranger turd into a Raptorette, but they know it is a hunk of shit that is almost a decade old so they won't ever do it.

The only manufacturer who has the potential to bring a Jeep competitor to market is Toyota, and they won't because they don't get it either.
What ever happen to the FJ?

LOL, exactly.

If Toyota can't do it, Ford doesn't stand a chance even with solid axles.

If someone comes to market as a "Jeep beater", they better be all in. If they are all in it is going to be spensive. If it's as expensive or more than Jeep and it doesn't have the capabilities (all of them) of a Jeep, then people will not buy them.

The "new Bronco" has all the components of a self fulfilling prophecy of failure.

What problems with the JT release? It actually seems much smoother than then JL release which everyone considered a home run.

I disagree as someone who has lurked on here and the JL forums during their development and now on the Bronco forums if the rumors are true like they were on here the Bronco will come at the Wrangler in full force with better engine options. I'll take the ecoboost over the lame V6 any day. Also the Bronco is suppose to have solid axles, 2 & 4 door options, removable panels from the roof for open air feel (which I would prefer vs taking off a a bulky hard top), auto and manual options, watts link rear suspension set up (no leafs) and a lot of the traction control systems from the Raptor. The only thing I haven't seen is anything about the doors being removable which for me I don't care as I have never taken the doors off my JKU.

I LOVE my Wrangler, and its the car I have owned the longest, however two main things keep me from buying the JT, 1) lack of power and 2) handling on road and those are both areas I can see Ford doing a better job.

So is the bronco going to be a standard cab F150 or a standard cab Ranger?

Why is this appealing again?

Removable rear shell?

I already have a removable roof.

Also its a Ford so ill pass. Nothing against Ford, they just do nothing for me.
