I see guys talking of trading in. As I've never done it before, how do you lock in your trade in value for something you're custom building that won't arrive months later? I'd like to trade in on a spec'd Gladiator. The tax savings is worth more than the hassle to try and sell my other car privately.

I'd consider driving up to North Carolina to work with Travis given his pricing, but don't want to find out months later that my trade in value has fallen 15%. Thoughts? If I can get something figured out that makes sense, I'll get to ordering with a swiftness!

Thanks!

You agree on a trade-in value while negotiating the special order. There's no great magic to it. It feels like maybe the dealer shouldn't do it, but this is the second time I've worked a special order this way.

So I'm making it out to be more difficult than it actually is. Negotiate the trade in value and that is locked in when it comes time to actually do the deed. It's not like it will get wrecked (knock on wood) or add up miles since it is just stuffed away in a garage collecting dust.

Correct. They agree on a price they'll pay you for your trade 2-3 months into the future. If the condition of the trade changes materially, then the deal would be off. Otherwise, they just account for the expected extra mileage and condition at the time of actual trade. It's easy. If a dealer won't do it, walk.

My trade in was a one year old model with lower than average yearly mileage. Travis gave me basically middle range KBB value.

I think so long as you are honest with what you have and the younger the model year at trade in, should be little to no surprises between what was negotiated by email and when you deliver it to pick up your ordered Gladiator.

If your trade in is not going to shine on his lot with decent miles and lower age, then it will probably be a straight to auction vehicle and valuing something like that over email and at time of turn in could be unforeseen difference in stated value.

Travis estimates trade in based on pics you send, stated condition and mileage. 3 weeks before delivery he quoted me $26-27K on a 2011 Dodge 2500 diesel. One day before delivery Carmax offered $26K. Travis paid 26K and did not see the Carmax offer. I think he is very fair

I checked a (long distance, unseen) trade in value with Travis as well as 2 local dealerships. He was exactly the same as one, and $1000 better than the other. I sold my truck outright, so it wont end up effecting my deal regardless. But his numbers were right in line or better than the others I checked.

How long has it taken people who ordered from Travis from leaving the plant? Mine is expected in nc on rail around 8/8. How long from rail to shop? I’m out of town starting Monday the 12th. Will I see it before I leave?

Took two weeks from the day it was built before it arrived at Tri-City. I do not know how long it sat on the lot in Toledo before it shipped out on rail.

For those that have received their JT from Tri-city. Do they put any Tri-city stickers on the back? Anything besides the license plate frame?

Just the license plate frame on mine at delivery with the temp tag installed.

I think on their customer orders, the vehicle is just rolled off transport and parked in the back lot still in ship mode and PDI is not done until the day you take delivery.

Picked mine up from Travis on Thursday - no problems. He got a bit busy towards the end, email communication was lacking a bit. They did the 2" lift and 35" tires, had a local shop realign and mount the tires down the road from them. Wasn't all the way ready when I got there so total process was 3-4 hours there. Gave me a good price on trade in on my Tundra.

I have not heard from him I am ready to buy/place my order. I am getting discouraged
