Indeed...I do not understand the need for all of that but there must be a reason for the madness.

Thanks for posting that! It looks like once the clips (pins?) are removed, the headrests could be reinstalled and then easily removable at any time afterwards. Is that correct?

Yes easy to put in a PITA to take out.

Might be worth it since the car seats are never coming out..... or not worth it at all cause a rack will block that mirror anyway

"a PITA to take out" the first time, right?
Looks like PITA each time as the tabs need to be pressed and they are looking to be inside the seat.

They clearly don't want those headrests out. I'm sure it's due to liability risk as without those headrests passengers heads' could easily contact the glass

I always take the headrests off the rear. Hate blocking my rear view. Looked at PDF file on this thread (thank you for posting) It doesn't explein the final removal process.
Looks like once everything is removed, there are 2 tabs to push in on each post. It isn't. It's a piece of plastic that doesn't push in.

I grabbed pliers and turned those tabs to 12 o'clock so I could remove them. 2 on each post. Once removed the headrest come off like they should have from the beginning. The posts are very long and can be placed back normally. No chance of them coming off accidentally.
Now I have an unobstructed view out the back.

So weird that it takes so much effort to remove them; the ones on my 2-door JK pop off and on super easy.
