We all draw "unnecessary attention" daily, or we'd drive plain white sedans. I'm a retired soldier, police officer, and currently in the Federal system. My paranoia is reserved for real issues. I've broken no laws

Not in Virginia. If you drive it into DC, you have. I hate the improper designation of lawful gun-related activity in liberal jurisdictions, but that is what it is.

When I found out about this, my then-young sons had collected many empty cases from a shooting area and thrown them into my JKUR. I swept the vehicle because people were actually going to prison for having cartridge cases in their vehicles in DC.

But it isn't an empty cartridge case. It's fake

“§ 7–2501.01. Definitions.

(2) ‘Ammunition’ means cartridge cases …”

Out of staters have gone to prison for this in DC.

It still takes something called evidence to convict a person, even in DC. As I said clearly, the .50 is fake. No part of it was ever capable of firing and it is not made of the same materials. If it were a fake gun, and being brandished in a threatening manner, you'd have a point, but this doesn't meet the elements of that law.

You're likely good to go then. I thought it had an actual case in it. I'm just looking out for you. The law is so absurd that people understandably carry key chains mounted from cartridge cases, and that's illegal. If nothing else, if you unfortunately go to DC, you will know the issue when asked. Many of the people there want to find any excuse to mess with gun owners--even to the extent of prosecuting and jailing those with an empty cartridge case. They hate gun owners. That's the reason for the absurd law.

If it does have an actual cartridge case, even if its inert and can't be fired, you are subject to up to a year in prison if you enter DC.

I get it. But there's still discretion amongst the ranks. I know many DC cops. And many of the Feds, to include the ones I work with daily.

Right. I used to park my H2 in the Four Season parking lot because it was the only one high enough back then to clear my H2 height. I had some Secret Service guys who had set up a block there nicely deem my 4" camping knife to be less that 3" because they were cool. It was when Egypt's Mubarak was staying there. I could have gone to prison. I asked them, with no real response, what would have happened if I was driving a set of steak knives, which have longer than 3" blades, home. It's just a tricky place.

Thank you for taking the time to bring to light a very messed up situation that could unbelievably easily destroy ones family and life. Thank the uneducated liberal gun hater for such laws that could destroy a family over a empty cartridge.

Keep a close eye on the law @Donkey Fluffer with that dangerous fake cartridge. The Moms with Blumterds $$$ may see that thing and have it changed? Grassroots organization my farts:puke:

I see you're in Virginia. Don't drive that into DC. I'm not kidding. Empty cartridge cases are defined under DC law as "ammunition," and unlawful possession of ammunition (i.e., don't have a DC firearms license) is punishable by up to one year in prison in DC. I'm a lawyer and am not making this up. Out of staters actually have been prosecuted on these grounds for having empty cartridge cases--items that are less harmful than a stick--in their vehicles.
Thanks a lot, good to know.
