I could probably host everyone that comes out. We have an old monastery up in the hills about 20 miles from Deadwood.
just one question.......do you have a stream that we can pan for gold in?

We do! It's about 400 feet directly below the lodge and quite the hike to get down to. I would think you could recover at least $2 worth in a full day of panning.

About panned out, eh? Got $34 worth in Alaska last year. Almost paid for the trip! Well, no, but it was sure fun anyway.
Made me want to go buy an excavator and sluice machine and move up there. Right.

2011 JK Rubicon
I'm contemplating trading in my 2011 JK Rubicon on a Gladiator. The sticker is below. Things are complicated by my trade in (2011 JK Rubicon 60K miles, 2" lift, 35s, very nice rear swing away bumper/carrier), and some mods I asked for:

  1. Dealer installed Mopar 2" lift kit (incl Fox shocks, etc.) - they want $2376 installed
  2. I asked about having the tires swapped for 35" M/T there, they want $338 each + $150 install
  3. They want $360 for some sort of tire diameter calibration (on my JK I bought a little device to do this)
  4. I don't want the chrome step thing it comes with and said I'd rather have the "rock rails" the Rubicon comes with. They will credit the rock rails but still want $500 to exchange and install
  5. They are offering $17k for my trade in
Accounting for all this, they want $32k from me (unclear if tax is in this, I'm waiting on clarification). I'm trying to determine what would be a fair counter-offer (or unfair that they might accept, in my favor...). It looks like they are basically trying to get sticker price from me at the moment.

Any input would be appreciated. I'd like to have them do the lift there to make it less of a potential warranty issue, but I can punt on the tires and rock rails since tires can be done anywhere, and rock rails are easy to install.

Incidentally, I don't want the Sirius radio or "deep tint" windows, not sure how much leverage I have to not pay for stuff I don't want. I suppose I could threaten to order custom...

Sounds like they're marking everything up between 250 and 300%. I'd tell them to kiss my *** and go elsewhere.

Install your own lift. It's easy and will make you feel a stronger connection to your Jeep.

Buy a Tazer. Then you can program the speedo and do a litany of other functions at home.

Buy tires and wheels from Discount Tire Direct. You'll save hundreds and they'll deliver for free ready to bolt onto the truck.

I got more info. The price quoted is with taxes and fees included.

The tires they are quoting are Nitto mud grapplers. I don't like these (so won't get them), but discount tire charges $337 for them, so same price.

The Mopar kits are $1500 online, not sure about shipping. So they are charging $900 to install. I've done lots of leaf spring lifts myself, but never coil springs, and never on a brand new vehicle. DIY is an option, but this installed price is probably not terribly out of line.

The calibration thing is apparently a Mopar thing where they are allowed to factory change the computer. I have the gadget with my JK and haven't used it for anything besides the tires. I'd rather have the factory thing, but not for the $$ they want.

Running the numbers you provided it looks like they're asking full MSRP plus the marked up parts/installs. Invoice on that truck is $40,491. Tread lightly should get that to $40,101. Having the lift installed at the dealer is arguably a good idea as my understanding is that will roll it into the 3/36 warranty if installed before you take delivery. If you're not one to keep making changes then having them do the speedo recal isn't a bad deal either. However, if you think you'll make other changes later the Tazer is a good route to go for that but you have to yank it prior to having it in for service or risk voiding warranty.

Hmm. Using the spreadsheet from this site, I get invoice of $38,996, but the price I quoted includes tax and destination, which brings to $44390 here. I wonder what our mismatch is.

I asked for a price with just the lift and rock rails, and poked them a bit about little details and now they say $29,326. If I use the spreadsheet invoice without the chrome steps and add list price for rock rails and their price for lift, I get $28,675. Maybe I should try to pull them down to $28k and see if they bite.

Mismatch is the spreadsheet adds the destination charge below. Mine included it. 29K including the stuff you're wanting wouldn't be a bad deal.

I think you are better off just dealing with trading in and buying/negotiating the base vehicle and modify after the fact. Unless you are just cash poor upfront and want to finance roll all the mods from the dealership at purchase, you are just leaving to much on the plate for the dealership to screw you over with.
