Bought all these stuff. Removed plastic shield under bumper. Put brackets on. Looked odd. Big space between bumper and skid plate. Plus skid plate only matched to a pair of holes on the new brackets.
So, 2 bolts are holding the skid plate on. Seems secure. For the space I found a $70 part that goes there. Instead I cut the old plastic shield and it fit well.

You missed two brackets. They were listed in some of the posts. The skid is held by four bolts.

Interesting reading this thread. I have a base Sport model and am thinking of getting a steel bumper on so I can then add a small grill/winch guard that I could mount some fog lights to. And I have read that for the steel bumper you must also add this skid plate. See the attached. Thanks for the thread guys, most helpful.

Thanks, I edited that post to include the front brackets as well. I got the rear brackets in and checked out the install as well to make sure the front brackets/bolts/nutserts were all that was left. Somehow spending $100 on brackets/bolts to install a 'free' metal skid plate now, but whatcha gonna do ha!

Those parts are definitely needed for the rear part of the bracket. (Those also the other parts that are contained in of 82215183AB.)

I think that there is a pair of additional brackets that are needed to attach in the front.

I have a JT Rubicon that came from the factory with a plastic bumper and the optional steel skid plate. I recently replaced it with the steel bumper and needed to get a different (compatible) skid plate.

This weekend, I'm going to take the new skid plate off and see if I can pull these brackets off. (I didn't attach anything to them when installing the new skid plate. I talked to a dealer parts person and a service tech. They thought that the brackets shouldn't be needed for anything else.

Maybe someone else knows for sure???

Here are three photos:

1. Front view of Gladiator with the bumper off. The red box shows the bracket in question.

2. A comparison of the two skid plates. The one that works with the steel bumper on the top and the one for the factory skid plate is the bottom. Both are oriented in the same direction: JT front toward the bottom. Here you can see the difference... I put a red box around the spot where the bracket is used to attach this skid plate. (The rear mount point is the same for both skid plates... See the blue circle.

Hey there, I am wondering if you might be able to provide me with a little clarity. I will be picking up my JTR on Thursday, and noticed after it landed on the lot (by way of a pic) that I screwed up my order and neglected to get the steel bumper I wanted. Travis said he could order one and have it installed by the time I get there (I had to pay extra for my shit mistake), and that he will give me the stock bumper to sell or whatever, but now that I am reading this string, I want to both make sure I leave with all the parts I should have for the stock bumper, and that all the parts for the steel bumper are on my truck! Do the skid plates you have taken pics of above come with those respective bumpers or are those add ons? Thanks for any insight!

Suggest you ask Travis how much he will charge to swap bumpers,in writing mind you. And let him worry about those potential headaches.

Unfortunately he wasn't willing to swap the bumpers, so now I have two! Looks like from this thread the two main items I want to have are the bumper and corresponding skid plate. I'm not going to worry so much about missing brackets, etc.

Most strange. Guessing he just does not want to take on the headaches. Surprised he didn’t want to just quote you an installation price, not very customer service minded since he does have a service department. But hey if you and a pal are somewhat mechanically inclined then provide some beer and fried chicken and take it on. Or if not something you want to tackle then there’s many auto shops in Miami that will do it for a usual fee. If all else fails send me a PM if you want to sell that steel bumper.

You're going to need the bumper, skid plate and hardware to connect the bumper to the skid plate, the necessary brackets (2 rear) are already there.

If you are not mounting a winch you will want the close out panel that goes between the bumper and grille

Looks like I wasn't writing very clearly. Ha. My bad. When my JTR arrived Travis sent me a pic. The first thing I noticed after my initial excitement was that it had a plastic front bumper. I went back and reviewed my order and realized it was my mistake, I didn't order a steel bumper. So, then I asked Travis if he could swap it out for a steel bumper. He wasn't willing to "swap" it out (probably for the reason you state) but he said he could order a steel bumper for me and have it installed by the time I got there. He quoted me for bumper and installation, etc. and I pulled the trigger on that (definitely not the same kind of discounting I had hoped for), but now I have a spare plastic bumper which will soon be for sale.

And now I also know thanks to this string that I need to make sure I get the skid plate for it too, since they are different depending on the bumper. So thanks for that insight. :)
