A photographer friend was doing porch photos for folks. My wife and I decided to dress up and celebrate my Alu-Cab arrival! (Yes we did get normal photos of the family too:facepalm:)

It’s funny. I think all Jeep folks have that ‘where have you been all my life moment.’ Mine was in 2002 when I test drive an ‘00 TJ sport. At the time I had a ZJ. And my buddy had a YJ. But it was that TJ that brought it all together for me. A short year and few months later I bought a brand new 04 TJ Willys and then I became TJWilly online. Lol. Happy for your your new passion. And we can relate!

edit: btw, my TJ Willy’s became known as Lady Bird a few months and several mods/trail rides later because she was so faithful. Names after Hank Hill’s faithful companion dog in King of the Hill.

That's awesome. I haven't watched king of the Hill in like 10 years, but I do remember him calling his dog Lady Bird.

That’s great. I’m glad you remember. I ended up swapping in a. D44 in rear with arb locker and a junk yard XJ high pinion Dana 30 in the front. Blocked the vacuum lock. Lol. Also with arb. Ran 36’s on five diamonds and never broke an axle shaft. She just climbed and climbed. Ole faithful.

hey @Rokon, @smlobx and @Pat2Alaska i'm buying a 5x8 utility trailer to haul grass, leaves, branches, the occasional yard of dirt, ect.

I didn't know they made galvanized trailers, but sure trac does.

Should I go this route, or a more traditional like this but add 2' plywood sides to it?
Jeep Gladiator Where have you been all my life, Gladys? 1592051193337

Here are my concerns:
  • the black trailer weighs 170lbs more than galvanized one PLUS the plywood (which won't be too much, but it all adds up). I'm not concerned about the towing weight, but it would be sweet to have a light trailer that I can move a little bit around the yard without my john deere or truck. not sure if that's feasable with 730 lbs or not.
  • is it going to stick out in my backyard........ and if it does, is that annoyance worth the weight penalty.
  • The galvanized one costs $200 more as an fyi, but I honestly don't care about the cost difference, just wanted you to know see next item.
  • Sure-Trac does offer custom powder coating for $150. So I could have the normal one in something like forrest green (which would match my future gator JT nicely.
  • the galvanized one only has 12" sides, so I was going to use it as is, and then in the next weeks/months have a local shop bend some 2' sides with their brake.
  • The plywood will stick above the 16" sides of the black trailer. Or I could spend more and get the high side model, but this one weighs 990. So i don't know if the 270lbs weight penalty is worth it.

  • Either of the black ones I would get custom in green, so i'd have to wait. Galvanized one I could drive home with today.
I've looked at local trailers, quality is shit, so i'm driving 1 hour to a sure-trac dealer to touch and feel them. That might just make my mind up right there, but i wanted to see what you guys thought.

Here's a photo of the backyard (coming soon).

I prefer aluminum but they are expensive. This one only weighs 600 lbs. I’ve hauled a bunch of stuff without sides. Resale is better. With. The motorcycle trailer, you have more folks interested in buying if you sell. Anything you get will get dirty but I’ve seen a lot of rust on the black ones in a short period of time.

Well guess which one I went with?

Price was $200 less than expected WITH spare.... Lift assisted fold flat tailgate!

Sorry for the late reply. We’re in Alaska...

Good choice with the aluminum one. Now see if you can flip the axles (put the axles below the spring) and put matching tires to your Glad.. That’s what I did

@steffen707 you made a good choice. Thats what I would have gone with. Never liked the stand up ramp when you didn't really need a ramp. The galvanize will hold up better.
Should be easy enough to roll around. Can always get one of the handled dollies with a ball hitch. They lever the tongue up and make it really easy to push or pull around.

Glad to see you use the Ford for dump runs and pull the cool stuff with the JT!
Nice trailer.
