Why did everyone decide their trim level (sport vs rubicon etc)?

Went with a sport with Max Tow and paid $37,100 out the door for mine. Wanted the 4.10 gears for towing purposes and gas mileage. Added 35's, front bumper and winch and still under $40,000 total all in. Also wanted a BMW 440i Hardtop Convertible so it made sense to go with the cheaper option. Currently averaging 18.7 MPGs and totally happy with my 2017 BMW 440i

I wonder where they get that weight from. I was at the dump Monday and on their scale with about 500lbs on the rear to dump I was just over 5500lbs.

That's impressive. The curb weight for the Sport Max Tow is 4700ish lbs. Then you add 125lbs for steel bumper and skid. Another 100lbs for winch and winch plate. So you're at 4925lbs. Plus 500lbs of bed weight, 5425lbs. And you have heavier 35" tires?! I went to a CAT scale recently and was at 5800lbs with no payload in the bed. Before that I was at 6000lbs (see linked thread below explaining why)

https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/gvwr-hardly-any-sag-at-all.30953/

Now, the 5800 was with my 35" tires, which weigh 80lbs each about. The OEM tires are 38lbs each. Say there is a 40lbs per tire difference, that's an extra 200lbs on the scale that shouldn't be considered when calculating payload because payload is GVWR less Curb weight. My door jam sticker says GVWR 6250, Max Payload 1550lbs. So 6250-1550 = 4700lbs curb weight, just what Jeep told me when I emailed them asking about my JT's curb weight. So for now, I would say I have about 650lbs of payload when my family is loaded up for travel.

I ordered a JTR LE for two reasons.

1. It came loaded which is how i order my vehicles in general. I don't do much if any heavy aftermarket stuff. I liked that the dash was leather stitched black versus the traditional rubicon red. Im not concerned about options that i may not use or need. In my opinion better to have and not need, than to need and not have. The LE wheels i particularly liked being fully blacked out as well so ordering a limited model per se made sense to me.

2. I wanted a pickup the Mrs wanted a Wrangler so instead of purchasing two new vehicles this was a nice compromise. The size of the Gladiator works best for me as the F150 class of vehicles, size wise, were way more than needed.

This is my first Jeep ever and if I did things over again I'd still purchase the Rubicon.

Was going to get the S with Max Tow.

Wife said, "Why not a Rubicon." I was like, who are you and what did you do with my wife.

Spec'd out a Rubi and reached out to a few local dealership's sales guys. While I was waiting to hear back from them, I found the Mojave and started really looking into that. Was sold on the Mojave (and I love Orange so the trim was perfect) until I really started reseaching it. I would have given up front lockers, swaybar disconnect, 4:1 Tcase - didn't care either way on that- for a great suspension. I will be replacing the suspension when I lift anyway, so went back to the Rubi and thats what I have on order.

My wife said "50,000 dollars for a truck?!!" Then she called her best friend. Friend said, "Well, that's what new trucks cost".

I like.

Sport S max tow. Pull a boat frequently and coming out of an f150 ecoboost, it made me feel better about losing 5k lbs of towing capacity.

I was moving from a full size Sierra and needed a daily driver that is capable of handling MN winter storms, be comfortable for my family on the longer drives, and haul/carry stuff like my previous truck did.

This was my first Jeep purchase and I was split between the Overland and Rubicon. I went back and forth on perks vs price and finally opted for the Overland. I like what I could do with a Rubicon, but I love what I know I can do with my Overland.

I got my overland because it was more decked out than that of the Rubicon and it had all the bells and whistles I wanted and is perfect for daily and off road trips. This thing came out with a mopar lift and 35 inch tires along with some good wheels and was already to take off road. Like many have said the only thing I am missing out on is the lockers and sway bar but those can be added later if I really want to take this thing through the trials.

I don't have a Gladiator yet but I'm in the planning and searching stage. I had decided against a Rubicon until I found that's the only way to get a manual with 4.10s. So I guess I'll be getting a Rubicon!

Sport S...... I really wanted a max tow but the color choices and price the dealer had weren’t great. Also I’ve had multiple jeeps and as much I love rubicons. I really didn’t want to finance the extras I knew would be getting switched out anyways. Only thing I took a hit on was the lockers and regearing but that’s not worth the extra financing to come out of pocket one and done

My decision came down to price.. I originally was sold on the rubicon until the dealer offered to order me a sport s with the max tow for a pretty good discount and at that time rubicons were at or even above msrp so purchase price was over 10k more for the rubicon and then tack on 9.3% sales tax + additional property tax + additional insurance and the sport seemed like a better buy.... at that time... for me... spent 2k on wheels, tires, rubi take off suspension and a new bumper and im happy

I went Overland North Edition because it was pretty much loaded up with options...A Rubicon was over kill for what I intend to do with my Jeep.. The dealer I bought from had a new Rubicon on the lot for less money, but it was a pretty stripped down model didn't have much for options.
Ditto, minus the North Edition part. Same rationale though.
