Why did everyone decide their trim level (sport vs rubicon etc)?

The only feature I didn't see between a fully optioned Sport S and the Overland was remote proximity locks. It was far from a dealbreaker, but now that I have it, I really do like that feature.

When it came down to the final decision, I was between a Sport S with Max Tow and 8.4" radio or a North Edition that had quite a few added options.

I was negotiating the Sport S (a really nice looking Sting Gray) with a local dealer who was going to do a dealer transfer from somewhere else in the state at the same time I was negotiating the North Edition at Koons. The two Jeeps ended up being within a couple hundred dollars of each other on final OTD prices, and the North Edition bundled a lot more bang for my buck. The only thing I gave up was the Max Tow axles and gearing, which wasn't a huge deal to me.

I went with a Sport S Max tow with as few options as I could find and the base 5” radio. I traded a 2019 Challenger 1320 that had the 8.4 Radio and ALL the issues the FCA / Playschool engineers refused to address. My faith in FCA is zero & the less things to go wrong the better.

Loaded Overland. Wanted all the features but the Rubi was way more than I'd ever use. If the Mojave was around when I bought the decision my have been different.

Rubicon because it was ready to do anything I wanted it to do out of the box and covered by factory warranty. Outside of all the mods that I'd do to any trim level of course.

Now, however, I'd buy a Mojave.

I went with a Rubicon, because...Well, go big, or go home. And also, I knew I was going to mod before ever even purchasing, and it will be used for hunting, fishing, offroading, as well as daily driving, so the ex-wide D44’s, 4.10’s, lockers, sway bar disco, 4:1 T-case, etc... were all things I wanted. As well as the 8.4” Alpine Navi system, HD Class-IV Tow Package, 3-piece hard top, and AUX switches. Which is what it has.

Sport S Max-Tow reasons, towing, load capacity, I don't need the 4:1 T-case, to low from my experiences. Automatic transmission (have my LJ w stick) hard top about as easy if not more than soft top to remove. Base radio system it works for me. Trac-Loc I'd be good with, I didn't get one :(. Lockers as soon as possible, not a big fan of ARB air-locker, Disconnect sway bar I'll get JKS set up if I need it. Big plus I'm averaging 23 MPG have been at 26 MPG with my Gobi Gladiator Max Tow. :like::LOL:
I didn't even look at Overland or Rubicon models less is more, less stuff to go wrong. Being Jeep #3 new and #7 overall I think I know what I want / needed. If the Mojave model would have been out I'd probably ordered it.

I ordered the Rubicon bc with what the trim offers it's hard to build a sport for the same cost. I'm mechanically inclined, but to do that type of work I would have to have a professional do it. At least it would be covert under warranty at that point. So Rubicon it was.

I am reducing the fleet down to only one vehicle and wanted a convertible and a truck. This left the Gladiator as my only option. As for trim level it was driven by cost. A car\truck is a depreciable asset and dropping money on one is not an investment. I drew a arbitrary line of $40K and that pretty much locked in the Sport S. My only real requirement was adaptive cruise control and Android Auto. I did budget $2k for Rubicon take-offs and other aftermarket items.

At the end of the day I do not have a use case for the Rubicon. I want a good daily driver that does truck stuff and can take me camping a little off the beat and track. My towing needs are also modest. For me the Overlander was just more money for things I did not care about.

The way I look at it $10K is six months less to retirement or one semester at NC State. (I am now at 4 years of feeding them money and still have at least 4 years more to go) But everyone has different priorities for what bring them pleasure in life. I spend way to much on computers and tools.

Originally looked at getting the Overland, but then realized I could get everything on the Sport S minus the painted fenders and LED lighting in options. Just added the LED lights this past week. Saved a few thousand, and built it the way I want it. I can mod along the way as needed. I'll only go off-road 10% of the time, so the Rubicon wasn't needed.

Rubicon, for the Dana 44’s, Transfercase, and lockers are the primary reasons. Secondary the Rubicon holds its value and is the most desired. My last two Rubicons Driven hard held up and I got amazing trade ins when upgrading to new model years. All my rigs where heavily modified so I know I will never get the money back, but dealers don’t take those mods into consideration only factory trim level, mileage and condition. So why not buy a rig that will hold its value and give you the most back.
All Gladiators come with Dana 44's, and actually the Max Tow package on the base Sport or Sport S has identical axles minus the lockers (which you could install later when regearing).

Basic Sport w/ Max Tow, Hard Top and Auto Trans.

Reasons:
1. Replaced my 2018 Ram 2500 that was way overkill for my construction/remodeling needs anymore. Power windows and door locks are unnecessary bc 99% of the time its just me in the truck.
2. Mostly deaf so I could care less if I even have a radio,
3. Hard Top bc when I do use it for work, there's no chance of tearing it up w demo debris
4. Max Tow and Auto Trans for towing/hauling needs on occasion plus I'm too lazy to shift all the time. Just want to get in and drive.
5. Not too concerned w resale as its been my experience that I'll get a proportional amount back out of it similar to re-selling a higher grade model.
6. I do regret not trying to push for color matched fenders
I don't even have to post why I bought mine, because you summed it up exactly. Only thing I would do differently would be that I'd have gotten the aux switches installed from the factory.

I bought a launch edition that was ordered by an employee at the dealership but he was not able to take delivery on since his wife was pregnant with another kid when it arrived. Not enough room for 3 car seats... wasn't even looking for a new truck but my son called me and said come look at this jeep. That was over a year ago and still smiling. My son works there as a mechanic so I got a great deal on the truck and free labor on all my mods.

Overland; at the time you could not get color matched fenders on a sport.

I like tinkering and could have built up a sport how I would want, but I figured if I’m spending over 40k on a vehicle, I wanted it exactly how I wanted, and flame if you must, I wanted the fenders,

although if I could do it now, I would have got a sport with the fenders.
