Key fob isn't big enough... I guess

So I've lost my only key/fob good thing is it has to be in the jeep because it starts. I've looked everywhere under mats, carpet, under and between seats. The only other place I can see it falling is under the center console. Once it cools down next week I'm about to get up close and personal removing seats and consoles to locate this damn key before someone takes it.

Does anyone have knowledge on the best way to expose the floor without having to take the whole thing apart?

No knowledge of that. But wondering, why only one? Not that it pertains to your issue.

It was lost sometime during signing of the paperwork. I was a bit too excited and didn't realize I only left with one key and now can't prove it was left at the dealership.

Just curious, because a few months back there was a scandal with a CSX employee stealing key fobs at the rail terminal and selling them on eBay. He was discovered after some dealers started noticing a lot of cars showing up with only one fob. Some articles say 1000, others 2000 fobs.

Insist they show you on the delivery checklist where they gave you two. No checklist? didn't happen. Insist they give you one.

Stripping the interior is a quick process, the seats unbolt but mind the electrical connectors and seat belts. The carpet pulls up and has push nut retainers.

Bring a second pair of hands to help hoist the seats and you could have it all laid out in under an hour including removing the doors.

The fob is probably on the inboard side of the drivers seat but under the seat track so you can't easily see it or reach it. Black fob against black carpet and black seat and black interior...

i dropped key between passenger seat and center console and it is trapped under center console. I tried to reach it without luck. I too need to take out the passenger seat to retrieve it.

Everyone should get a DropStop. It's a flexible foam "tube" that fits between the seat and console. I saw it on Shark Tank and bought a set. Haven't dropped anything under the seat since.

Having read through all of this and knowing how huge these key fobs are and my wife’s propensity to lose keys...I’ll be immediately epoxying a tile to the back of the damn things.

Funny, drop it between the seats and see what happens. you'd be surprised.

I would think a dollars worth of dark foam pipe insulation would do the same thing. I will check that out.

I hate bumping old threads...but rather than start a new thread ranting about what seems to have happened to multiple folks I'll bump this int he hopes that it helps some one else.

If I can sum up my experience of dropping my giant fob into the one area you just cant' get it out of into just a few words screw what ever twisted angry engineer developed this black hole into which the fob will perfectly fit into, but your hand never will.

This happened to me out in the woods and while trying to retrieve the fob my friend who had the smallest hands in our group set off the panic alarm. After 10-15 minutes somehow it emerged enough for her to shut it off and then is went back into the abyss. After trying sticks and magnetic tools, parking on a hill and trying to rock the jeep to dislodge the key, I ended up driving 40 minutes to the closest place that had e-torx so I could remove my seat and get the damn fob. All in all about three hours of anger and rage, which after 10 minutes of removing my passenger seat passed. I have filled that void so hopefully it doesn't happen again, but man oh man...what a flawed design.
