I have a manual, and love it. That was a big selling point for me. You will hear some don’t like it...first is too short (but needed if you crawl) and after I put on 35’s I never use 6th gear usually 4th sometimes 5th on HWY. definitely take one for a test drive but if you enjoy driving a manual, it is a pleasure.
Thanks for the insight, we have a manual JT overland on order and I’m wondering how the drive changes on 35s.

I have been a jeep girl since 2013. After 2 months of dealing with unresolved mechanical issues, check engine light, misfire codes, and service Auto Stop Start code on my new 2020 Gladiator...I traded for a RAM 1500 Hemi....couldn't be happier.

In a moment of pure weakness and thinking I needed a full-size truck for the space (kids, house, etc.) I traded in my 2020 Gladiator for a 2020 Ram Laramie. UGH. I feel like I want to puke. I literally regret it so much I can’t sleep at night and don’t want to drive the Ram. I had some equity going into the Ram so my immediate goal is to get back into a Gladiator ASAP and chalk this up to a life lesson. The 2021’s look great so I’m thinking Red or Blue and possibly manual this time. I might try and move up slightly from the Sports S I had too. People who have a manual - you happy with it?
Never again will I stray from Gladys! (That’s what my kids called the Gladiator) I’m a dumba$$. Until we meet again.
I just bought the 2021 Sting Grey Gladiator Sport S. I put 2020 Gladiator Rubicon rims and tires on it. 50 miles on the set. $1200. Sting Grey matches well with all the black accessories.

Looks like everyone who bought the manual loves it! Probably a pain to off-road in it.
I really like it. It seems most of those who say "6th is useless" either have up-sized tires or constantly drive in hills.

To me the gears offer a perfect balance. 1st through 4th for most driving and two overdrives for fuel economy and less engine wear on the freeway.

I towed near max for my Overland (3500 lbs, max is 4000) for nearly 1000 miles. 5th on the flat territory and 4th for the hills. 65 mph.

No tow, I use 6th flat and 5th moderate hills 70 mph.

I am getting better than EPA mileage under any conditions. That is another advantage of MT, by controlling speed and acceleration, you have better control over fuel consumption.

One last thing: ESS is completely under my control with just normal driving; no need the by some expensive add-on or even to push the disable button. All I have to do is keep the clutch pedal down at stops. If I want ESS to stop the engine when anticipating long wait, just put it in neutral and let the clutch out. Light turns green, push in clutch engine starts immediately.

For the price of another JT....no thanks haha
Yep and they recommend you spend more and up the axles as well, more money. Already decided if I feel like I need more power I might as well just buy a second more powerful truck for truck things and keep the JT for fun.

I thought ESS was going to be weird with a stick, but gotta say because you can control it with how you operate the clutch at stop its not irritating at all.
If you come to a stop in neutral with the clutch depressed, ESS won’t trigger and idles normally. If you come to a stop in neutral with foot of the clutch, it kills the engine.
You can also let off the brake and it won’t restart until you clutch in.
I’m still getting a feel for it to make the most of it, but it’s pretty smooth.
I get the hate on ESS but its far and away less aggravating on a stick than auto, and works well.

ill say the manual is WAY BETTER than the auto,, makes the gladiator feel like it has a LITTLE bit of power with 37s. the auto with the stock 32 was a dog bad. the clutch is kind of strange feeling only because its a dual clutch. but all and all.. hated the auto

Also, my boss feel in love with mine so much he went out and got him a Gobi Overland Gladiator as well!

Good luck!

2020 Gladiator Rubicon, manual (the only thing I've done TO it, so far, is added a Truck Vault). I have driven manual all my life (I am only 55) and Wranglers for the last twenty years or so. The only problem I have had with my Gladiator was with the hill assist. It does not release fast enough and I stalled - so I disabled it. I only have about 1600 miles on it but I agree with the others, fifth and sixth are for the highway.

Funny thing is, getting the manual scored another bonus point for me so my wife couldn’t drive it!
My wife ordered a manual on her '18 Wrangler S after driving my '17 Rubicon and loves it. My '20 Gladiator is a manual too and we both have manuals and it works just fine for us....

Bro. I have a manual JTR, and I absolutely love it. I've had YJs, TJs, an XJ, a ZJ, WJ, WK, WK2, and even a BU (Renegade, it's my fiance's). I've also had a Ram 1500.

The only reason I abandoned the Wranglers for the unibody jeeps was because I have a family and dogs, and we just didn't fit anymore. The only reason I abandoned the Ram was because it off roaded poorly.

So when Jeep announced they were bringing back the Gladiator, a truck, that fits a family, and off roads, and the top comes off, well.. There was no other choice. I found a JTR with everything I wanted, including the manual, and pulled the trigger.

The only downside to the manual is if you tow a lot, it only tows 4500#, because it's a Wrangler manual, not a truck manual.

Other than that, get it. You'll love it.

You guys are nutz! I have a crazy amount of love for my Gladiator. I’m like a car guy thru and thru and I couldn’t be happier with ditching my car for this thing. As a a matter of fact I have a brand new next door neighbour who rolled out of his garage today in a Ferrari 812 Super Fast and I wasn’t even mad. He’s got what you call “fuck you money” so good on him. The dang thing was the same colour as my Gladiator as well!

Thanks for the insight, we have a manual JT overland on order and I’m wondering how the drive changes on 35s.
I added 35s and mopar lift. It did loose some pep. I was disappointed at first but I got used to the loss in take off power after a couple of months.
The loss of take off power was made up for in “looking good”.
I don’t off-road so it was purely for looks.
Re-gear was quoted at $2200.
Now that I’m used to it, I don’t think I’ll get the re-gear.
I just drive the RPMs up a little further before shifting now.
