I submit that ESS is itself a defect ... Honestly if they rigged up a pin that poked me in the ass cheek every time I came to a stop it would bug me less than this "feature"

I can tell you that the first button that will need to be re silk screened and the most used feature of my truck is that disable button ... I press that thing all day every day ... An engineering turd if there ever was one ...

My Mojave came with MT tires and she aint so good on gas ... My buddy gets much better mileage but his truck has (basically HT) tires on it and gets way better mileage ...

All this scientific stuff is great ... But these trucks are the very definition of inefficiency. There is not one efficiency based redeeming trait ... Oh wait, the trailer hitch is polished chrome so I got that going for me ...

So, why dont I put on the HT tires ? Cuz mine looks cool ... And with the occasional looks I get from the young 40 year old moms (until I get close enough for them to see me), ill take the mileage hit ...

Its all I got left !!!

I really wish I could give more than just that sort of like - I've give the 2 hearts like as well, heck, I'd give you a third if they'd allow that.

Au contraire! Just the morning, driving to work 50 MPH, in 5th gear (manual), on cruise, looking down at my instrument cluster I see 35 MPG "current". And, yes, I have an Overland with the stock highway tires, which I am quite aware is not the cup of tea for the majority of members on here. Even the MT is not the choice of most, by far. But my Overland sure suits me. IMHO, the V6 is a real jewel, amazingly efficient under the right circumstances.

Lol I like it. And for when I don't want it to kick on (or off, rather) I just don't module the brake pedal as far when I come to a stop, it's easy to use it or not for me. I think JScans can disable it from starting without touching the button constantly, maybe an extra reason to buy it if you've been looking and on the fence?

@ShadowsPapa I realize it's based on not moving, but I run into things like red lights and traffic where parts of my drive consist of not moving. So I like it for when I'm not.

I know some people scoff at Jeep (especially Wranglers and Gladiators) being "fuel efficient", and I realize I essentially drive a brick, but if I don't HAVE to just literally burn gas for no reason at a stop light that I know will last more than about 5-10 seconds, I'd rather not. I wish our trucks returned better mileage, but they don't and I knew that getting in. That's 1 of the reasons why the new 4xe interests me so much.

I know, I was being silly because the other were talking highway, etc..... anyway........my wife and I both like and use that feature and we leave it alone.
I have found you can control it with your foot. Stale red, don't push the brakes so hard and it won't stop. Stale green, about to turn red, push the brake pedal harder and it will stop.

My wife proved it helps - her GC battery went bad and she noticed reduced mpg by just a bit on the tank she used before we took it in for warranty repairs. The ESS stopped working - and she noticed it.

I never did see the big deal about it. It's NOT just Jeep - other vehicles have it, too. Some areas are getting very strict on this idling thing. When that light turns, no biggy, I go.
Granted, it's totally different for a stick, but I am talking STRICTLY AUTOMATICS.
It's not like I am losing races or having people honk at me or anything. I watch for the other side to turn yellow and take my foot off the brake.

Some day ALL vehicles will have this and it will be more strict.
Especially with current changes.

Mine got 23 MPG all day ling with the Minivan tires on it. Went to the 35's now I get 15MPG

same! Got 16.5 on 33s and 15 on 35s. No power loss as the transmission keeps the revs up.....and that's just me in the truck with no load or towing.

I get about 8 with my 73. I can do 10-11 if I'm really super careful.

I am finding with our huge, wild, temperature swings I can almost watch the mpg change depending on the temperature. It's in the upper 40s now and the mpg has gone up, the other day when the high was about 22, it was way down. I also note when it's super cold it won't upshift as quickly and it won't hit 8th at all in places it normally would.

But starting the engine takes about 30 seconds of gas.. ? Or it did back in the day..

30+ years ago maybe - but then even a well-tuned carbureted engine didn't take THAT much gas.
Today it would take maybe 2 seconds worth.
