Dangerous control of my Jeep over the internet

Do you want to be able to defeat your Jeep's ability to communicate over the internet?

I don't think any control of a vehicle over the internet is safe so I never opt into it. I just got a Gladiator and apparently my dealer signed me up for a Mopar account and connected my new Jeep to it. I logged in and see that the following things can be done to it by anyone with my Mopar password (or by anyone who can convince Mopar to change the password or otherwise give them access):

Lock
Unlock
Horn/Lights
Start

This makes me extremely uncomfortable. Does anyone know how to disable all of this?

I think you will be perfectly safe. You have better odds of getting into a accident then someone hacking your Jeep. In both cases that’s what insurance is for.

Or, just call them and have it disabled ? That seems easy to me ...

Id wonder what you perceive as dangerous though ? It wont stop while in motion, If it is started, it wont drive without the keyfob in the vicinity of the truck ...

Unlock ? That could suck Ill admit ... I wouldn't want anyone in my truck ...

But "dangerous"? None of this seems truly dangerous ...

Now, if you just don't like it, I get that ...

My Gladiator is new. My others cars and trucks are old, so this is my first experience with this kind of technology in a vehicle. I hadn't logged in to my account till I saw your post. I have received a couple of email reports regarding mileage and service. My first recommendation is change the password from what was set at the dealer. Make your new password a good one (more than 8 characters) .

If you don't like it, you can cancel as others have stated. Otherwise, change the password provided when it was registered, and select your PIN (which is required before sending the commands you listed)

Still looking at the system. Activating a remote command also requires a pin number (you sirrus pin number). You could change that too. The system seems secure to me.

Man good luck with that stuff. I had it on my Ram via the Uconnect system and it was pure garbage. It never worked for me so there was no fear of someone else getting it to work. I just ended up cancelling my account and having my money refunded.

It works over the cell network. I believe that they contract with AT&T but I could be wrong about that.

In any event, if you live in an area with good cell coverage it tends to work better.

I live in northern indiana near the toll road and never have any problems other than it being slow. It takes 30 seconds minimum to do anything.h subarus take a fraction of the time.

But the point is that the system works reliable for me and I believe it is because there are strong cell signals where I live.

It is part of the SiriusXM Guardian “service.”

Good luck calling Sirius and getting them to disable it, though. Anyone who has interacted with SiriusXM knows how crummy its customer service is.

It was a pleasure letting the service expire after the 12-month free trial was up.

IMO, it is only a matter of time until we wake up one morning to read that someone hacked into Sirius and stole the personal information of millions of Americans.

Nice that yours worked. Tried so many times to get that system to work on cellular, wireless, etc. Nothing ever worked. A couple of times I actually needed the system to work were complete failures. So to me if you are paying for a system such as that for the reasons to be able to have it in time of need and it never works then there really is no need to pay to have it. Just seems to me from all the stuff I have read on it over the years its purely hit or miss who gets a good setup.

Unfortunately, there have already been so many breaches this wouldn't really matter much IMO. Equifax alone reported a breach of about 147 million people in 2017. I'm guessing that is most American consumers that have any sort of credit (anyone that's bought a house, financed a car, done a cell phone contract, etc.). there have been countless other breaches, too. And now Solar Winds. I think it is a reality that pretty much everyone's personal information is already out there and i tis just a matter of time until yours gets hit. For anything that really matters to you, my suggestion is to have a strong password and use multi-factor authentication whenever possible even though it can be a PIA

As pointed out by others, this is nothing to worry about. For me, it is a great convenience. The truck cannot be driven unless the FOB is in the cab, and it will only accept two remote start requests before you have to get in and push the start button. If you don't get in and start it, the remote start turns the engine off after 15 minutes. If the truck is running from a push button start, the remote start requests are ignored.
