Another vote for insurance. Mine was stolen (successfully) in early January. Thankfully recovered and I have it back now. But let them deal with all the costs. Towing, repairs, and push for in-depth diagnostics to determine any damage that may not be obvious. Especially with the electrical components, there could be any number of issues that aren’t visible. Also, if you make thr insurance claim and anything comes up later down the line that can be linked to this, they will cover as well.

Pay your deductible and be done with it.
just curious, did you use the Uconnect app to find it when it was stolen to find it? I am not understanding how they steal it and it doesn't get tracked

You have to subscribe to the SiriusXM Guardian service for that to work

I know, I have it, the rubicon has it too, when his was stolen aren’t the thief’s worried it will just track them? You know? Why steal a rubicon or a Mojave that has the feature standard/capability?

OC could have potentially quick bought guardian the second he knew the first truck was stolen…

I pay for it for this reason are they bypassing it? Can the jeeps drive with the fuse pulled?
I very curious why these get stolen with a system thats designed to find it

Any with the 8.2 come with the SiriusXM Guardian trial - including Overland or any other model that has the 8..2 available.
It's not a Mojave or Rubicon thing, and once that trial expires, you have to keep paying for it to keep it working, otherwise it drops off.

The problem is, it requires the antenna to be able to catch gps signals, they can easily kill that part or cover it, otherwise disable it.
I also wonder if people just don't think of that and never bother checking! Does anyone call JEEP or Sirius Guardian people if their Jeep is stolen? I've never seen anyone say "my Jeep was stolen so I contacted the Guardian people" - have you ever seen anyone say that??

Right that’s what I’m getting at, I pay for the yearly subscription that has recovery features, you get it all on a map in the app too.
I just said Rubi/Mojave because the 8.2 is standard in those models which the OC has a rubicon, just weird they get stolen and no one uses this feature. Plus criminals steal them, seems too risky

It’s a 4g cellular antenna, so it doesn’t need line of sight to the sky like satellite. But it doesn’t matter much, as thieves just pull the head unit right away. It’s the easiest way to kill the signal to both satellite and cellular.

Still offering - anyone wanting to hide a stolen Jeep, bring it here and park it by my shop. Can't get GPS or satellite and cell reception? what's that?

Yeah, it's so simple to kill factory tracking of any sort - pull that unit out and it's done.

LOL...I'm taking notes. I've been retired for a few years and need a new hobby. So let's see ?

I could move back to Iowa which would make the wife happy. Des Moines is not far from her family. Papa is offering a safe haven to process stolen Jeeps...

What cut do you want?

And my offer still stands. I’ll retrofit your jeep with the ā€œnew and improvedā€ Z-Track Radio. That’s right. The all new Z-Track has zero tracking ability. It’s privacy in your Jeep again. That’s right. We at Z-Track will zero out your tracking, FREE OF CHARGE!! Our patented 7ā€ touch screen head unit, certified by Wild Hobo 4x4 engineers, guarantees zero tracking. We’ll take that excessively bulky 8.4ā€ monster and recycle it. Do YOU remember when radios needed to be as large as 8.4 inches?! Now, with smaller space saving design, we can provide you all the same features, without that pesky 1.4ā€ getting in the way of your accessories. And for a limited time, we’ll do this, ABSOLUTELY FREE. Plus $9.95 shipping and handling. Please call 1-888-WLDHOBO. Our operators are standing by.

Final Update from my post :

dealer said bring it in , we can asses damage … my deductible is 1k so kind of need to think well if it’s worth the claim ..

my Very cute blonde fiancĆ© says - I have a locksmith because I’ve lost my car keys a bunch let’s call them . The come and reprogram the key FOB for $83 bucks , guy has worked with SDPD in over 150 wranglers stolen and knows exactly how they do it and what to look for . Key works now and Jeep can drive . No such thing as theft mode . Thieves delete your key fob from the connectors behind the glovebox and they pair their blank key and drive off that’s the trick . I got replace by broken window for $170 bucks and that’s the end of it . My Jeep has a KARR gps recovery system in case they actually take it it can shut down the Jeep apparently and make it undriveable . I was in Tokyo while this happen and that alarm site won’t give you access outside the US .. anyhow I need that steel steering wheel lock or a fuel cut off switch . Guys were pros but somehow they failed this time .

Yeah, that's what was said before - no such thing as 'theft mode".
It's plain and simple - your FOB was removed, theirs programmed in.
Dealers should know that stuff but then I had a dealer swear to me that there was no way to add FOBs to a 2004 WJ that it could only work with the factory fobs and further, you could only have 2.
I walked away and contacted a safe and lock company. I walked in with my original fobs and a couple of FOBs I had from WJs I had owned in the past (but had lost earlier)
The guy spent a few seconds, and programmed in 3 fobs for me, an original, and a new spare from eBay and one from a 2003 WJ I used to own but totaled.
Yeah, a FOB from a 2003 Jeep now worked with a 2004 along with a Chinese replacement and one original.
