SOLVED: Broke my Gladiator by drilling into wires

You would be better off going back in time and never doing that.....and please people, do NOT drill into the overhead console. Holy hell....this is the third such mess I have seen like this.

It's not hard to do this if you take the proper precautions... dropping the trim panel will drop the wires too and there's a few inches of clearance you'll need to vacuum all the shavings up anyway.

Oh man, I’m sure that made you sick. Hopefully you get that fixed soon. I prefer bolt on vs cutting/drilling unless it’s minor. I just got a 7’ plow for my Gladiator and it requires no drilling or modification/wiring. Works like a champ! No more snow blower!

Have you tried soldering the wires? I’ve done a bit of work with the CAN bus wires in my gladiator and other applications. A nice clean solder joint will do way more for you than press fit connections.

Thank you. This gives me hope that it can be fixed. I am not skilled with solder, but I took a stab at it late last night and failed miserably. I reached out to my local ham radio community and found a bunch of people ready and willing to help with their soldering skills. I hope to have an update shortly.

As athous previously mentioned, if you are lacking in solder skills, solder seal connectors work great. They will solder, seal the ends with adhesive, and heat shrink the connection all in one. Very simple to use (although I recommend testing with one or two first to get the applied temp correct).

I'm pretty good at soldering (wired 1/2 dozen or so streetrods from scratch, plus motorcycles etc.) but find these come in handy when the location is difficult to solder properly.

I invested in a battery powered soldering iron and heat gun last year so I have no excuse not to do clean wiring. Well worth the investment.

Now is not the time to learn how to solder well, you should use a solder joint be sure to have the same twist in wires when done. Don't try to redo sloopy connections and be sure all strands of copper are in the splice, cut back the wire a bit to get a good clean start . After a proper splice is made you will be good as new and can start looking to see what was damaged or blown in the mishap. Just for now, get some help with the splice, repeatly failing could cause more damage everytime you test it. Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine.......Jack

Rats? Perhaps you need a snake habitat. King, Corn and Rat snakes are good to have around. We have a good family environment in the back 40. For the snakes, that is.

Haha! I wish we had some snakes! It’s all under control now, but this trap ended up being the best solution for us. It’s a little on the pricey side, but buy the time you try other methods, and keep paying for repairs - it’s well without the investment. I’ve had it for 5 years now and it works like a champ. If you have a rodent problem, I can’t recommend this enough.

I went to a friend's house in Riverton and we took out the whole wiring harness, resoldered the three wires, and then did tests. We tested continuity, measured 0.6 ohms on all the wires, and found no shorts between any other wires. We put it all back together, and stuff still doesn't work.

He read the computer codes, and they indicated unable to communicate with the steering wheel controller module. And sure enough, none of the controls on the steering wheel work other than the horn.

And then we took off the airbag and steering wheel and pulled all the wires off the control module in the steering wheel, and nothing really changed. The windshield wipers are still running. So I don't know.

We did disconnect the two batteries while we worked on the wires to give the computer time to reset.

I just don't know what to do next. Please advise.
