Dangerous control of my Jeep over the internet

And yet when you turn on your phone or computer you have things waiting on them to report back to "home". You would have to leave your computer and phone off to make them safe - so why have them?
There are probably things going on with your computer and phone you don't know about as soon as you turn them back on.
So good luck turning off your phone and computer and still having any use for them.
Did you know that by being on this very site - there are likely around 2 dozen others things watching you? CBS actually showed it on 60 Minutes how when you go to their own news sites, it looks like a spider web all the stuff watching and tracking you - and that's true likely even for this site.
And please don't tell us that you have ANY social mediocre app on your phone or computer. If you use Google for anything they know more about you than your own wife - or mother.

What good is your phone if it is non-communicative? The whole purpose for it is to enable communication. The internet and cellular connections are separate, and the internet can be disabled. The biggest attack vector is the user of the device. Same with a PC.

The Jeep system is closed, and locks out the user so they are not an attack vector. The only communication is pre-programmed functions available over a closed network. What is the advantage to turning that off? If it really bothers you, park it in a concrete bunker, move to where there is no cellular service, or buy a truck without the cellular connection.

If my phone loses communication, it is a glorified camera. Its communication abilities is the reason I have it.

If I didn't want my Jeep to have communication abilities, I would have bought a model without that option.

People have always, since the very beginning, feared what they didn't understand or could not explain. The sun rises over there and sets over there, who is it that does that? Must be powerful, we've got to fear him.

In my opinion the key to getting out of this giant mess we find ourselves in is to stop forcing our ideas / points of view / state of mind on others. I say let people decide for themselves. Like networking in your Jeep? Turn it on. Don't like it? Turn it off.

Jeep is selling to the masses, they are doing what other companies are doing - oh, wait, no, they are actually a bit behind - and you want them to cater to you.

Nah, that's how we end up stuck in the past. It's how we ended up with mobile phone/computers that were covered in buttons, nobody could remember what any of them did, and some would fail from pocket lint in a month. "Choice" was letting people be stupid. Steve Jobs proved choice was bad when he reinvented the entire market with a phone that had two function buttons. Reminds me, the JL/JT have WAY WAY too many buttons. Jeep must have asked a bunch of yahoos in a focus group, and unfortunately listened. My first reaction to seeing the JL interior was W-T-F, as over-busy as a Chevy interior.

You can choose to drive a model T, I suppose.

If I can go to mopar.com and unlock my Jeep then it's connected to the internet. I don't care what the first hop does.

As for catering to the masses, looks like the poll says most people are in favor of deciding for themselves.
