I went unpainted because I know I'll be adding metal fenders. That said they sometimes look better than painted and sometimes painted ones look better.

I have a Punk'n JT ordered, and I agonized over it. I like both looks almost equally. I finally went with black fender flares and top. I just decided that if it was such a close call for me, I'd just save the money for other options. By the time it was all said and done, it was the difference between me going with a Rubicon instead of Overland. I'll take that trade-off.

It may just be "sour grapes", but in many of the pictures I've seen with the body color flares, it seems there is a slight but noticeable difference between the orange color on the metal body and the plastic flares.

<sigh> Yeah, I was eventually convinced to go black as well. Between the black bug screen, the black cowl body armor, and the black top (because red everything was way too much red), it just makes sense to stick with it. Saved me money I'm promptly planning on spending on a Chicago flag grill screen and a few other things.

I have black fenders flares on my gladiator but I want the body colored flares to match the rest of the gladiator which is billet silver in color but the dealer can’t order them now because they say they are not available now
I have a String Gray Gladiator and wanted the fenders to match. The dealer wanted to charge me $1650 for the same body color fenders. I took it to a custom Jeep shop and they painted the fender the same color for half of the price. It came out exact. It’s an option.

I have always heard the painted ones are for the women/men jeep owners who want the luxury and the black ones are for men/women who don't care about putting a scratch on their jeep. I'll take the black ones all day over painted. If I rip one off its easy to find a replacement on your local craigslist, letgo, OfferUp, marketplace. Already had to replace my driver side and I have barely own the jeep 3 months.

Found a replacement 5 minutes after it happened for $100, grabbed both passenger and drivers side for $100, your not doing that with painted flares.

I don't just prefer black fenders, I actually loathe body color fenders. I think it ruins the look of the jeep.

Black fenders are the best. No worries about scratches and it's always a good place to rest your soda can while you open the door because i hate placing things on painted surfaces.

But in the interest of Justice, I'll admit I got my JT with painted fenders, but only because there were none with black fenders to be found in the area.

Black fenders are my choice.. I like the way it breaks up the color. On my bright white JT.... IMO white fenders and white roof would be too much white

My red JKU with black fenders and black freedom top looked great with the contrast.

First time I saw a red JKU with the red fenders and red freedom top, I almost threw up from the red overload.

Even though I have color matched fenders, I'm glad at least my freedom top is black. Although I noticed the inside of the freedom top is color matched and has the all terrain raised relief pattern.

I think it depends on the color. I like the punkin with black roof and fenders. I saw a triple punkin the other day and i think it looks strange. On the other hand I think the white ones look better with body color roof and fenders. Then there are others that look good either way, like the gunmetal grey color.

I think it also depends on if you want to put a camper shell on it. If so, I think the roof needs to be body color too, but for the fenders, again it depends on color.

My wife was right in that the blue looks far better with body color roof and fenders (and "looks" are all opinion, don't believe me, look at some of the so-called models and "stars" out there - ugh)
Anyway, backing her up were the sales guy I went through, the staff at that dealership, and the sales staff at the dealer I use for service.
All of them said they had never seen the blue in body color roof and fenders but said it was the best looking hydro blue JT they'd ever seen.
One Chevy dealership that has a sister dealership on the other side of town that sells Jeeps - I pulled into their lot a couple of weeks ago looking for some accessories (they are weathertech dealers) and the sales people came out to look at my JT - and commented they liked it in all blue. Apparently none of the local dealers have sold a hydro blue JT with body color fenders and roof as they all said as much and how much they liked it that way.

Some colors look best with contrast, something to break them up or compliment the body color, others don't. It's like Picasso - you get it or you don't (in that case, I don't)

I like black fenders better. It has nothing to do with scratches - I just like the way it looks on a modern Jeep body.

I'll also agree with those who say color makes a difference. I don't hate any of them matching, but some colors look better to me matched than others.

Picasso aside ( I am an artist and teach art) I still think black fenders look better on most color jeeps. My 2 cents

Having owned a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon Gobi color with painted fenders which suffered greatly from ’desert pin stripping’ I decided to go with the black fenders on my red 2020 Rubicon Gladiator. Less to worry about.

I was ok with either but I went with body color. The black just gives me the perception of a plastic add on whereas the body color looks like it belongs. That said I went with black hard top for the same reason in reverse. I like the notion that the hard top doesn't belong and its a cue to the world that hey this baby comes off unlike the roof on your truck
