Light trucks can be tagged commercial. You just have to pay the extra fees. At least that's how it works here.

Isn't it how lovely the state of Commiefornia operates!?! I think the only way to get a cheaper registration is to make your truck a "habitat" by getting a topper shell. After that you should be able to register it from commercial to auto making your fees cheaper.

The upside is you don't have a time limit in a loading zone or something like that.

Here in NC I have a choice of commercial or standard. Only depends on how much you intend to tow. I'm not going to be towing much at all soooooo, standard tag it is.

I don't think those count. Only the yellow zones in cities.

Every state does something strange with trucks and it makes no sense at all. There are SUV's that can tow 8k+ yet they don't fall under the strange truck rules. Mine is registered the same, but I swear property taxes are calculated differently somehow on it because it is a truck, like with some payload number.

It is! Finance woman was going to order commercial plate because of hauling capacity of my Sport S. I knew I wasnt going to be hauling much other than every now and then. I told her to order a standard tag. If anyone made a gripe about it, I would handle it. I'll be honest, I couldn't live in California!! You have my sympathies!!

It’s always been this way in California. No shell-commercial.
