Yes, very true. My driveway is pretty flat, so that is not the difference.
If you have the off road pages, just check to see if your truck is level... it will tell you.

I converted from Toyota to Jeep this year. I always used Mobile 1. Never had any engine issues (caused by oil) so I stuck with that. You?
The owners manual specifies a MS 12991 requirement, and Mobile 1 does not meet that, in addition to other specification. Up to you but if you have engine failure they may be able to void warranty because of improper specification motor oil. The MS 12991 spec is found in European bled oils. Just keep it in mind.

Thanks for the heads up!
Wait, isn’t that for diesels??

Any body else found their oil to be a quart low after 2000 miles.? The steel cable dipstick is a new one on me too. It has been a while since I have broken in a new engine, but I don't recall other vehicles burning oil at first. No visible drips.
Mine drank oil during the first oil change cycle also. Like somebody said, it's normal for a new engine to do this. But, I found that the piston rings seated well after break-in and now I don't burn hardly any oil at all between change intervals.

Perfectly normal for a new engine to burn some oil during break in. The rings haven't fully seated allowing oil to get by. Coupled with the PCV system it's not uncommon to see a 1 - 1.5 quarts used during the first 5000 miles.

Also to note. Modern engines don't break in quickly. Takes a solid 20k-30k miles before wear in metals start to decrease. If you get your oil tested with Blackstone you will see elevated levels of iron and copper in the oil, gradually decreasing over that 20k-30k.
If you look around the web at engine builders, many claim that the break-in on modern engines is about 200 miles. After that the wear-in on the rings is complete.
I realize that many of us seem to feel the engine gets increased performance at around 8-10 k miles, and some feel this is due to factory programming in the ECM but this is not a proven reality.

It's not only rings that wear in. Every moving part wears in. Every bearing surface. Get Blackstone tests done. The 5.7 Hemi in my Ram was still showing elevated levels of iron and copper at 27k miles due to wear in. At 35k miles those numbers finally started coming down to normal levels. My last 2 Ram engines were the same way. The 3.6 in my 2012 JKR was the same way. The 3.5 Ecoboost in my F150 was the same way. Right around 25-40k miles iron and copper levels drop off.

The majority of wear in happens quickly, especially the rings, which is why it's good to vary RPM's for the first 500-1000 miles. Everything else takes time.

The posters were really speaking about oil loss through rings. So I’m only pointing out that after several hundred miles the cross hatching that is on the cylinder walls from machining has been worn off. At this point the rings are seated.

In my work life I probably reviewed more than 40,000 oil analysis samples from engines, final drives, hydraulics, pumps, and gears cases; from Cat SOS and Fluid Life, so I am well familiar with the reporting results. Likely 15,000 of those were diesel engine analysis reports. I have never seen a gasoline engine oil sample, so I can’t comment there.

As far as benefit from sampling goes, it won’t usually catch catastrophic failures. It offers some measure of confidence that the component being sampled is wearing normally. If a really poor sample is detected, it is too late, and some part of that component will fail, the question is when. A main benefit for engines is detecting glycol in the oil. This is generally a repairable situation and with a few short interval oil changes, engine life goes on.

I have been checking my oil since it's first oil change at 3000 miles, I'm at about 4500 now. The level seems to be stable. I was below 1qt at 3000 so it would have gone down some by now.
