Leave it. Your odometer runs slower. Your warranty last longer
We all know our speed changes and we do the math to figure out what we should be doing but it also applies to the MILAGE. So right after I bought my 21 Gladiator, I posted my WILDPEAKs on Kijiji, drove to KAL tire and upsized to 285/75/16 which put me from 33” to 34 1/4” which then made me have to calculate the math for 3.3% difference.
So, not really a big issue for speed but let’s say you dropped $$$thousands$$$ for the premo extended Time/MILAGE warranty. That 3.3% adds up in your favour if you get to 200,000 or whatever MILAGE package you bought.

Trust me I DO understand that, but if you ruin three tranny's along the way, are you ahead? I'm just going to see how it responds to the tires and then decide, jscan setup is cheap enough that I think it will be nice to have anyway, and remember that it would allow you to slow that odometer down even more, lol (not that I would)

I guess if you’re upsizing tire size to extremes then my theory isn’t good advise but for me I’ve only ever gone up one size in all my vehicles and never did in a tranny, diffs or driveshafts. But going much BIGGER...do the recal for sure

Tires I picked are 33.6" before on the truck, I'm not going up much either, just tires and maybe 1" front level kit. I garage mine and I have to keep clearance to get in the door. Already plowed snow off the roof this winter, lol.

Really?
Why not?
A JScan setup runs less than a set of TPMS sensors, and then your speedometer and AT (assuming AT) will be happier.

Kevin, tell me how and why my trans would know any difference. If it is a learning TCM then it will adjust, if it isn't then it won't care at all. Theoretically it should be shifting based on a variety of inputs regardless of tire size. I have never had the shifting/searching problems that others complain about. And yes it will go into 8th gear at 50 mph on the flat. I don't expect or want it to go into 7th or 8th with a load.
The only thing I am doing is not getting an accurate speedo reading as far as I know.

Looking to go for bigger tires, probably going to recall, but want to know if it would run ok a week or two until I have time. I work a lot. Lol
I ran for a week without recalibrating to understand the difference. It was tolerable, but the driving experience was much better once I recalibrated

I completely agree in theory, but I have no idea how the trans algorithm is set up, so I also agree that it could cause problems. Guess I will see, tires next week. And honestly it's hilly around Pittsburgh and the trans never seems to act even remotely the same on my rolling hills work commute stock.

On/off-topic - I don't really want to buy a $350 tool (or...whatever the Tazer costs these days) JUST to recalibrate my larger tires. Can the dealer do this for me?

Here's my recent real world experience....I have a sport S with max tow (4.10 gears). I swapped on a set of JL Rubi take off 285/70/17 ("33 inch tires"). I purchased jscan and diligently went in to recalibrate...based on the actual on vehicle measurements of the 285/70/17s I was goint to set it to 31.75" ....what did I find in Jscan?.....tire size was set at 31.93" from the factory. So basically I had zero need to recalibrate. I went ahead and set it to 31.75" just because I was in there. After the fact I started a thread on here and someone confirmed that 31.93" was the factory setting. Not sure if that is just for max tow or rubi models with the 4.10 gears.

you can buy jscan, jscan adapter cable and a jscan license for about $80 total. Tazer is not required for the tire size recalibration.

Jscan complete setup for about $100, has to be worth it just for the ability to check codes as vehicle ages (out of warranty) and make corrections like these

Yes, to me Jscan is totally worth the $80-$100, especially if you don't already own a code reader.

In my case I hade a rather robust Autel OBD scanner/diagnostic tool that works on a ton of foreign and domestic brands/models but it did not have the ability to tweajk any settings liek tire size. So I purchased the jscan strictly to set the tire size. I don't ever plan to go larger on tire size, so for me the jscan is just going to sit in the toolbox. Perhaps if I ever switch to LED lights or want to tweak the few other minor things it will be useful at some point. For $80 I am not too mad.....but wish I would have known my default tire size was already set at 31.93" before I bought it.

Oh I agree, my residential hood is used to cut through to a new development, speed problems so the LE. Has pole mounted radar reminders they move around the hood. Right now I'm always within 1mph. After tires I'll compare before I do anything. Maybe a gps on phone too. Taking a we'll see attitude
