I am in the same boat with you, and I am giving it another go. I had the CEL that would not go away. Here is what I did to be comfortable with my decision.
How many Gladiators have been sold? Last count I heard, 70k units. I have always lived by a 10% defective rate is to high. Now where have I seen anything close to 10%(7k) in significant defective issues.
Second, what are my alternatives? I need a mid size pickup for dingy towing, fishing and towing a small box trailer. The only other flat towable midsize trucks, Ford Ranger, and Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon. I did my homework, test drove them, did not win me over. Even when I knew I was saving $20k. So I decided to stay with the Gladiator. 1) already been down the buy back path, they were easy to deal with. Not sure how Ford or GM would be in a buy back but since FCA has been very easy (takes a long time) to work with, why chance it? 2) I am not settling on a product that will not make me smile every time I drive it (as long as it is working). If I jumped into one of the others and had an issue, I would be kicking myself through that whole process. If this second Gladiator fails, I know when and who to call and what to expect. I will be getting my second Gladiator soon.

Posts that had the CEL, the P0300 Misfire survey, and others I think I counted up to 130 individuals. Way under my acceptable 10%. Through my work (auto parts) I found some customers that knew some Jeep Dealer techs, and they asked them had they seen a lot of these issues, and they said they had not. Went to the JL forums to see what they experienced. Nothing significant found there.

Good luck on your path, try to eliminate your frustration and replace it with some facts that you have found, this way you trust the information you have collected and feel better about your end decision.

Yeah, your experience would make anyone discouraged. I see it as you getting a very short straw with your current purchase. If you really like the diesel JT, I would suggest you pucker up and try again.

I've heard people say things like, "I bought a Jeep in 1978 and it was a disaster. Never again!". Just think of all the fun they missed from one bad experience.
I bought a POS Chevy in 1993. Never again. I guess I only missed out on the fun I would have had with a Corvette $$$$$

So, I was one of the first to take delivery of the new EcoDiesel Gladiator. I absolutely loved the truck, except for a horrible water leak around the front driver/passenger windows. When I say water leak, I’m talking about the kind that floods the floorboards.

Long story short, after 5 months and many repair attempts with no success, FCA is buying the truck back under the lemon law. Here’s my dilemma... I really want another one but I have cold feet. Several over on the diesel side are having “service DEF” issues amongst other problems. Many with the 3.6 have cylinder misfire problems as well as numerous other issues. The wandering steering, random electronic gremlins, etc. seem commonplace. I never had any mechanical problems with my Gladiator, but don’t know that I want to roll the dice a second time. What should I do?
I faced the same issues. FCA repurchased my 2020 Gladiator Rubicon when they could not fix CEL light for engine misfires. Bought a 2021 Gladiator Rubicon and it’s PERFECT! Give Jeep a second chance. You will not be sorry,

I’d still buy another— I’ve had enough good experiences with the vehicles that I’d take my chances again even with one bad experience.

It stinks to go thru one tho so I understand the cold feet. As others have suggested if you do proceed — get the best possible deal/warranty out of them.

If it was major mechanical or software issue with no resolution in sight or it was a nasty a fight to get replaced, then I would say no. Since CFA did right by buying it back, I would purchase again. All makes and models have issues so there’s no guarantee a competitor’s rig would be any better. If everything was great except for the leak, buy another one one. Good luck with whatever you do. Just don’t be like that douche bag who traded in his Gladiator for a RAM and came back to troll everyone because his RAM was so much more superior.

Dodge bought back my 2001 2500 diesel in 1999. It was an Early 2001 with turbo issues and brake/steering issues (brakes and steering used the same pump). I screwed myself and got out with nothing. I bought another in 2005 and put 235,000 miles on it with oil changes, 2 clutches and a water pump ($50 and an hour under the hood). I ran the programmer on Extreme for 200,000 of those miles. Always going to have issues with anything that moves or carries current. Buy another and don’t look back!

I've got an Overland EcoDiesel with about 2200 miles. Dealing with the DEF system issues that others have reported, and I've noticed some bugs in the 8.4" infotainment system.
I went back-and-forth for several months about whether I go with a Gladiator, or go the safer route with a Tacoma. I ultimately came to terms with the fact that with the Jeep, I'm going to experience less longevity, a little less build quality, ... and a lot more smiles and enjoyment. And I was absolutely right. The infotainment bugs are not-at-all a big deal, and I am fully confident that the dealer will replace the DEF pump/heater/whatever and I'll be on my merry way. I wouldn't have dealt with those if I'd gone Toyota (probably), but I still don't regret my choice.
I think that if I were in OP's situation, I'd choose as follows.
  1. If the buy-back was a fight, screw that, I'm out.
  2. If the experience is going to make me second-guess and overthink every little not-perfect thing in the next Jeep, such that I won't be able to enjoy it fully, I'm going Toyota for ease of mind.
  3. If I think I can get past any other "gremlins" in the next Jeep, but am shaken on the diesel, I'm going Jeep but gasser.
I'd like to think I'd make the same purchase choice again and just chalk it up to the un-lottery that everyone's bound to hit sooner or later.

Lemon law is very simple, if a vehicle spends more than thirty days in the shop total for the same issue its a lemon, if you are annoyed with the situation drop off the vehicle and say you are in no rush you just want it fixed and that will help add days towards 30.

manufacturers pay an ins type fee to protect consumers and they will gladly take a vehicle back and refund instead of getting suit filed for a lemon as from what I understood when I had one years ago that ins or fee they pay for that consumer protection increases and its cheaper to take the car back and crush it or try to find the problem on a rainy day.

I am responding to this post because I have not had any issues with my diesel and to my surprise the vehicle went in to regain for the first time two days ago at 3500 miles. 2000 if the the 3500 were highway miles at speeds over 75 mph and I thing the hotter an eco runs the lest it regent but I am not 100% positive. I have a 2015 Ram Cummins that spends more time in the city than on the highway and it regions often.

If you decide to buy another Jeep I would recommend calling Chris Madison at Cross Jeep in Kentucky, here is a pic of his personal company eco diesel with dana60's front and rear. He is the the most knowledgable Jeep guy I have ever met and the nicest guy and dealer I have ever come across.

Several friends have bought vehicles from him and never visited the dealer, paperwork was emailed or fedexed and vehicle was shipped to several different states some as as over 1500 miles away.

Good luck and dont give up, I have owned every Jeep with every motor, hemis and all and hands down the eco is by far my favorite for the power and fuel economy.

I run a pedal commander and the Jeep is night and day from stock, the only time I have had a Jeep leak is when the freedom tops were taken off and when re-installed the insulation was damaged from not being careful enough. Windows leaking makes no sense to me, insulation, or gap in the door or roof line is all that would make sense causing that.

I remember thinking the same thing about buying another jeep, but my wrangler was gone maybe 1 day and i found a good deal on my jt. Its been great so far. The steering is a little loose but ill get the tsb done at some point.

I have a diesel Gladiator Rubicon and it kicks butt. Not a single issue. 4,000 miles on it. I set it up to be a toad. I have an interesting set up.

I went through the same issue. My 2020 Rubicon had CEL issues. FCA did a buyback, and I purchased a 2021. My new vehicle is PERFECT and I have no regrets.

I reordered the exact same truck. 2021 JTR Diesel. Picked it up Monday. 107 miles so far. Perfect but fingers crossed!
