OK, in my JK, I had on board air due to having an ARB locker. Then I got a LJ Rubicon and didn’t need the on board air because of the Rubicon’s lockers. Now, eventually I think I will add onboard air in my Mojave, if for no other reason then I am eventually going to add a ARB up front. I’m not there yet. In my LJ I had a portable Viair Compressor that I attached to my battery to air up when I was ready to leave the trails. That’s what I was planning to use with the Gladiator for now. However, after reading a lot about the dual battery system and reading the instructions for jump starting it, I am wondering about using this portable air compressor for now. Do y’all think it’s OK for this summer, anyway, or do y’all think I am going to Jack up my electrical system? Thanks.

Your portable will be fine. It will take up space wherever you store it, and that will be the only drawback to it.

I would advise to always use the alligator clips and go straight to battery. I have had a portable in the past that would blow the fuse using the lighter plug.

Yeah, I will use the clips! I don’t think it even has a 12v port adapter...

I have been contemplating just adding a really nice converter/inverter with a nice set of batteries lithium iron phosphate batteries. Then putting a 110 plug in the bed capable of supplying 2.5-3kw. this should be enough to poeer whatever accessories you need and allow you to not have to carry them all the time.

Back to the point. The battery will be fine with clips to run the compressor, if your worried about the charge keep the truck running while you do it.

You could also use the 7 pin trailer harness as it has some good current capacity.

OK, I’ll bite...how? Is there an adaptor for that? I think I’m convinced it’s OK to use the battery and I was being way too worrisome about it, but I am curious how this would be done?

Nothing special. I assume you have the trailer tow package as most JT do. Go buy a 7-way trailer connector (trailer side) and wire your compressor to pins 4 (12V+) and 1 (12V-). I think when ever the key is on it will be hot.

I just installed an ARB twin in my JTR. 813 fab bracket and the harness that came with the compressor. I wired into aux switch 4 and it only gets power with the ignition on. Then a small piece of angle for the coupler. Ron Popeel said it best "just set it and forget it"

this was for the mount

Interesting... that’s probably the best place to put it...
