I already got the skid, plates off a Rubicon and the suspension. How much better is the 4:1 Transfer case, is it $20,000 better. I can do without the creature comforts, I got a base sport max tow and I bought the skids, suspension and rock rails for under $500. The bumpers on a Rubicon would come off if I bought one so no point in that. I added lockers to my JKU for around $1200 and figure if I stay under $2000 on the JT I'd on be all in lift, lockers, Rubicon stuff I want on mine, current lift and tires, bumpers front and rear, all in for $43,000. If I sold mine and bought a Rubicon I'd be at or over $53,000 and then I'd have to start a new build over.
I hear you about having to rebuild and that has kept me from doing anything as of yet, however, I have considered trading mine in for diesel JTR, with the JTR I could just slap my 35's back on and call it a day. Plus my fuel economy would be MUCH better. I came from a Duramax Canyon and I do miss it "engine" thats for sure.

JeeperJ, If I was in your shoes it would be very HARD to trade in for another. You have a diamond in the rough per say for your fuel economy has always been outstanding...and if you got a new one there is a chance you'd get a JT that gets the fuel economy of mine.

I have 23k miles and Im still waiting for the engine to (break-in) so my fuel economy will increase, LMAO! I've avg 15.7mpg for the life of my vehicle so far. I saw 19mpgs once when stock and that was the trip home the night I purchased it. After that it was mid 17's. I use cruise most of the time, seriously like 95% or more, and only go the speed limit cause I get nauseas what my mpg show if I go any faster, LOL.

I have seriously considered a JTRD though...that would be the only model or make for that matter, that I would actually get rid of my JT for.

Ok so I have had my 20 Gobi S (max tow) now for a little under a year. Just hit 5k miles.
I have a few tiny mods on it currently. Level with rubicon suspension goodies. 35's, wheels, etc. Nothing crazy to put on take or take off.

With the way trade values have been lately, it makes me consider looking into trading to a 21 Rubicon.
I would have originally went Rubicon, but at the time I was looking, i didnt really have the fundage and did see any reason to when the max tow offered the 4.10's and wider axle etc.

I did regret not getting the LED package (though i do have non factory LED stuff now), the 8.4, and cold weather.

I love my Gobi color, but Sarge and Nacho catch my eye. I like the thoughts of the extras i did not get, and having sway bar disconnect and lockers. (I know I can add to my Sport S). I also still need to have the steering TSB done.

I am having a tough time deciding if I should look into trade at this time. OR keep my Gobi color that i like.
I am just afraid that no dealers will do much negotiation with lot vehicles.

I would think about ordering, but not sure how that would work with me having a trade or trying to predict the future value / incentives when the vehicle is ready for pickup. That is why lot ready ones entertain me.

Thoughts?
I'd keep what you have.

There's a lot of equity in your current truck, and you're going to lose that time over a couple of lockers and a sway bar? Just install that stuff on your current truck if you really need it.

The Max Tow has things you cannot add to a Rubicon, but a Rubicon does not have things you cannot add to a Max Tow.

I wouldnt say I have a lot of equity. Im just now about to the point of breakeven with current KBB values. (upside down on previous vehicles). So now that negative stuff would pretty much just wash out. I dont expect the current values to stay this high, and really the only reason I am considering such.

I'm in the process of trading in my 2020 Sting Gray MT for a comparable 2021 Sting Gray Max Tow that will be ordered. With the crazy trade in values and finding a dealer who will discount an order plus incentives, overall it will only cost me the price of the automatic trans so I'm getting the Max Tow for 'free'.

But if I couldn't get Sting Gray (which I love) I'd have a hard time making the switch. That's a tough one.

Also debated upgrading to a Mojave, but after driving one the extra cost/equipment wasn't worth it for me. I get the same 4.10 gears, the wider axles. I figure I can upgrade the shocks later and then determine if I need a locker.

Curious as to what the max tow has that can't be added?

35% more legal payload (which translates to significantly higher legal towing) for starters....

Vroom was slightly higher than Carvana when I sold, but after reading reviews I went with Carvana as their process is very easy. Plus, they handed me a check before really looking at my Jeep. They didn't even bother to start it. I moved it to the street since the Carvana gal couldn't drive a stick. A tow truck came later that evening and picked it up. My wife wasn't happy with it sitting on the street with a lockbox. It lqqked like it was being repoed.

Got a good price from Vroom as well. I have sold to Carvana but never Vroom. What made it such a hassle? I don't like how they take the car and not cut you the check. Carvana did everything all at once. The experience was almost unbelievable.
Agree re. Carvana. We sold our 2015 Land Cruiser to them and it was by far the easiest and best vehicle transaction I've ever had. I seriously thought there must be some "gotcha" coming at some point but it never did. It really shines a light on how completely whack the traditional dealership experience is.

I would seriously consider it if I could find a loaded diesel. I can't even find a diesel anything on the lots. I have almost 30,000 miles on my Gator JTR. I'm also very hesitant about giving up my Gator color.

OP, my question to you would be: what's your primary use of the vehicle?

Off-roading? Towing?

A less than year old Gobi Max Tow with only 5K miles is JT gold. In reading your original post, it appears your Sport S Max Tow now has most of the Rubicon bits except for the 8.4, cold weather pkg, sway bar disconnect and lockers. As you mentioned, those can be added. You need to get the steering TSB done (don't procrastinate).

Sarge and Nacho are sweet colors indeed. But Nacho, especially, is very hard to come by.

Bottom line, do what's best for you and your family, but I don't see the value in jumping from a 2020 to a 2021 when you just have 5K miles on your vehicle, it's one of the highest in-demand colors, and it's already modded to account for some of the Rubicon parts gaps.

I’m in the same boat. My max tow will be 2 years old in July with 15k on it. Has a few mods like yours. I ordered it exactly how I wanted it. However it’s hard to ignore these trade in values. A local dealer has a nacho Mojave that I keep looking at. I’m not really sure if trading it in is the right move. Idk.
