Cripes! The Pentastar hooked up to the manual trans has one helluva rev hang going on. I'm sure it is in there to keep the cats working when you let off the gas, but dang is it obnoxious. I tried searching the forum for this issue, but couldn't find much. Do people just don't notice it? Am I being overly dramatic?

You get used to it. I think all manuals have it now. It's nowhere near as bad as on the JT as it was on VWs or Subarus I've owned before the JT, but I have noticed it once or twice.

A tune would eliminate it, if that's your thing.

There's no other fix, because it's part of the ECU programming.

Precisely. Helps to cut NOx emissions. Here's an article on it. Automatics do it too, but you wouldn't notice it.

No, but you just get used to it. It's been a thing on at least the last 4 manual cars I've owned, model years 2008 and on. It just one of the things modern manual transmission cars do (without a tune). You can get an idrive, or pedal commander, which helps tremendously with the throttle response, but does 0 for the rev hang.

I ended up naturally slowing my shifting a bit. I'm driving a truck not a sports car so I've become acclimated to it and it doesn't bother me anymore.
You know, this is probably why I don't notice it as much in the JT. My previous cars were turbocharged, "sporty" vehicles (A Subaru BRZ, 2 STIs, and a VW GLI). I don't drive the JT nearly like I drove them.

Ok. I guess I will just adapt to it. I suppose I might consider a tune at some point. I do have an idrive which I really like. I had a manual Impreza for a few weeks in lieu of a rental, but didn't noticed it on that. All of my other manuals have been much older.

It's just a thing with modern manuals. My M2, mustang, and fiesta st all had the rev hang. The only time they don't rev hang is really winding them out. Tuning the mustang and fiesta did nothing about rev hang.

If you're just cruising around town, shift slow and it'll be super smooth

Fixed mine by selling it and buying an auto. Much happier
Definitely wouldn't work for me. I wouldn't have even looked at Gladiators if they didn't come with a manual. I suppose if I was disabled to the point of needing an automatic, I would consider one, lol.

Exactly what I do. 1/2 pause between shifts helps make the clutch re-take work perfectly.

No interest at all in doing that. The only trucks I even considered were Gladiator and Tacoma. I would have been in a Tacoma if the gladiator didn't come in manual. If neither came in manual, I'd be in (or waiting for) a bronco.
On the other manual thread, you mentioned being a truck driver. If I were driving for a living, my opinion might change haha. But for now, driving to/from work is the best part of the work day. Yeah, that's weird , but it's where I unwind. So I want it set up like I want it.

Exactly. "Buy an automatic" is not a solution for me. Shifting through the gears and clutching is the best part of driving for me. It's relaxing. I don't mind it, whether in traffic or no traffic, on mountains or flat land, on curvy or straight roads. I will buy only manual until I buy electric. I'm 32 years old. I don't think that's old yet by any stretch, but in that 32 years, I've been driving stick exclusively for 15 of them. So I'm much more comfortable in an MT than I'd ever be in an automatic, rev hang or no rev hang. I have nothing against automatics, and I'm not going to pester anyone, or rag them for having two pedals, but it's just not for me. It's manual or something else that comes in manual. Those are the only options for me (until electric).

Just ordered my Gladiator. I'm coming from a 2013 JK unlimited and before that an 05 TJ, both manual. Do you think I'll notice it coming from the 13? Not sure when this became a "new manual trans" thing.

We have a '16 jku with manual, and it has rev hang, so I think your '13 will too. Does that one have the 3.6 or the 3.8? I'm not sure exactly when it became a thing on JKs. But I know all the '08 and up models of any brand I've owned have it. Honestly, the biggest thing you'll have to get used to will be the soft clutch feel, and the long third gear. Others will disagree, but IMO, neither is bad, but they take some getting used to. I do think a pedal tuner is a must do, though. (Idrive, ultimate 9, pedal commander, hikeit, etc).

My 13 has the 3.6. Okay so that's good. I love the way it shifts.

Also, Jealous of your Nacho. So disappointed it's no longer an option. I MAY cancel my order and drive out of state for the last new Nacho Jeep I've been able to find

Thanks! ?You have to find a Nacho and a manual, though. Two rare options, so I'm guessing even rarer together ;). In my case, I just bought from dealer stock haha. It was easy finding new vehicles back then (way back in April 2021 haha). And the local dealer stocks a lot of 6 speed Wranglers and Gladiators, though they never stick around long.
