Surprising Jeep Damage

Car buying sites give less value for vehicles with accidents.

Only if it's reported, and then I don't use those buying places anyway. They almost always have lowballed me on things. Accidents that do no damage other than a bumper are one reason I'm glad most don't get reported anyway.
Like I've posted before - there's no agreed upon or automatic methods or criteria for reporting. Few independent shops report, many dealers do, but it's not required.

My truck’s appraised damage was around $2k and I’ll be going after depreciation to my vehicle as well.

Will it even get reported to something like carfax? Most of the time not.

Seem that everyone assumes the future value will be lower - but that's not a given and only a craps shoot depending on if it even gets reported to carfax.

You know, some of us live there or were raised in the area. I am originally from TX, but consider myself 100% Marylander. So I have to stand up when it comes to the entire DMV region. Bad drivers in the area, sure. But I'm proud of where I'm from, and I'm proud of the upbringing. Same as you in your region, I'm sure.

I have a bone stock High Altitude 3.0 eco diesel and, just before thanksgiving, I fell victim to the disaster that is known as the Washington DC beltway (495). I was rear ended while slowing for another accident up ahead when the kid in the civic behind me did not.

I was pleasantly surprised at the damage, or lack there of, that was inflicted on my jeep with only a plastic bumper while the Civic was totaled.

I just had a kid rear end my trailer and his Mazda looks even worse, definitely totaled. Fortunately the trailer took the damage and I drove away after the police were done. Hoping there is no frame damage. He hit the trailer pretty hard.

I totaled my 2007 Acura RDX near Deep Creek, MD in college. Beautiful state though nonetheless.

Back when things were sorted by North and South instead of Left and Right, Maryland seemed to be in that state of limbo. A bit of both and none of the other. Drive like a Jersey Jerk or stop in the road to have a conversation.(it's a Southern Thing)

Wow. The factory bumpers on these aren't half bad. Even the plastic cover held up ok. Are you going with another stock type rear bumper? I wonder if aftermarket would have held up so well.

Had the same thing happen the other day a lady rear-ended my black JTRD and she ate both tail hooks, but never reached the Genright bumper, it is tucked up tight and the tail hooks stick out about 5 inches. She wasnt happy, and I said well maybe next time you should stop. Think she hit me doing about 5-10 mph. PS I have a stock read steel bumper in my garage. between my 2012 JKUR and JTRD I have been rear-ended 3 times, one totaled a Honda fit one totaled a Honda crv and the Honda accord got broken plastic bumper and trim pieces

About 8 months back this guy tried to turn out to wide and came out into my lane while I was turning into the road he was pulling out of. He clipped my driver's side rear tire and the angle was perfect enough for me to climb right over his driver side fender, pretty much ripping it off. I literally crawled up it. I had zero damage to my jeep and it snapped his axle or something as well because he couldn't steer the vehicle to the left anymore. His was a total loss. The police officer that responded was baffled as well. Said he had never saw a vehicle get pretty much totaled in a accident and the other vehicle not have any damage at all.

That's mine in the background. No damage. That's with 35 inch tires, if I would of had the 37's he may not of even had a front end left.

Factory steel bumpers suck.

They're heavy. We installed them after accidents affected our front and rear bumpers.

They're really not all that heavy. The front one weighs 90lbs and its full width. A solid stubby will weigh that. If you look at the thickness it really isn't tat thick and both front and rear have plastic on them.

Front factory bumper has plastic on it?
Maybe you mean the bezels or trim that covers the crush cans and goes around the fog lights.. That's not really bumper per se. It's trim on the bumper and it's only a small part of each end of the center section. The ends are fully steel, no plastic.
90 pounds isn't heavy? It is compared to most truck bumpers. I can lift bumpers for Ford and Chevy trucks with one hand. They are thin compared to the stock Jeep steel bumpers.
If you are comparing to 3rd party bumpers - those change how things on the truck work - like the air bag deployment and such. The factory had to engineer their bumpers to meet Federal and DOT requirements, crash ratings and so on.
