I'm your brother from another Mother. Jeep GFC combo for me too.
Somewhere on the Mojave Road, the morning after this pic I had wind, rain, and thunder storm. I was actually quite beautiful.
Eyyy buddy! I'm hoping to make a big trip next year or the year after on the TAT. Hope you're loving the GFC. Did you get the Trucklights lights in yours? They are a HUGE improvement to have vs hanging lights or flashlights.

I'm still hanging my lights. Your rig looks great! I'd love to do the TAT, keep in touch, I'm retired and have a pretty loose schedule.

I kept it basic and have been running this smittybilt for almost a year now. No issues with it. Used it every other weekend during the summer.

You guys with the alpha did you do the over hang over the front over the cab or rear over the tail gate? I might be picking one up tomorrow. But I think I would rather have it over hang the tailgate and drop it down a bit so that its even with the roof for better mpgs.

Very Cool... You did 10 "Badge of Honor" trails with all that Overlanding gear. Impressive. Nice Rig ! and good driving.

Oh yes! I have 104,000 miles on my JT. An I've actually done 13. I have them on the other side. I'll pretty much travel and camp anywhere and look for trails wherever I go. I retired from the Army back in August and I figured before I get a civilian job, I would make the most of it. So, it was just me most of the time. I'm from FL, was stationed in SC, and now in TX. So, I've been on the move. Hahaha!

I absolutely love my Roam Vagabond. Pretty comfortable mattress. It is softshell but I don't mind setup time trade-off for the size I get with this tent. It sits offset to the driver's side. On the passenger side, I will be putting Roam 83l box for recovery gear that is on its way. It sits on low-profile billie bars and I can put it on the truck by myself in 10 minutes or so.

Like your setup mole! I have the bilie bars (5" brackets) and I've been researching how I want to set up an RRT. How's the rear window visibility? Any pics with the rrt buttoned up you could post? Anything you would do differently?
I talked with the guys at billie bars and they will trade up the lower profile 5" brackets for the newer 8" version for free. They also sell a 3.5" rrt riser bracket. Wondering if the 6.5" will raise it enough to help with visibility. I also have the roam 95l box mounted currently and like you I'm hoping to offset the tent just enough to keep it there!

that is one trade off to this setup is rear view visibility is none-existent. It doesn’t bother me that much since I drive like an old man and backup camera helps with parking. Only thing is I have to lean to the side so I can check on cars behind me through side mirrors. I don’t think even 8” stand will help with visibility that much. All it will do is just raise the RTT above roof line which is why I don’t want to do it and went with 5” stands. Also, I have a cane corso and that is another reason why I need to keep the RTT low. He gets through the window using the bed cover, makes him getting in to the tent a whole lot easier. With Billie bars you have a lot of play to offset the tent and a box. It will stick out on the sides to fit them both. I got the 83l which is lower profile but wider. End goal is to get Maxtrax mounted onto the top of the box.
My box is not showing up until the 14th but I will definitely take some pictures and message them to you once it is in.

I've had the Smittybilt XL tent for 3 or 4 years now and have spent many nights in it. I did a month long camping trip in it last year. I think for the entry price of around $1000 it has been a great tent. I did add an egg crate for a little more padding. I don't have experience with other bigger name brands, but for me I don't think the upcharge is there on other soft shells. Hardshells are a different story.

Here is some pictures. Also the way I load it. Roam vagabond is perfect size to slide into the bed first and than slide it on the bars.

Thanks for sharing the additional perspective and pics. The rolling toolbox staging area is a great idea!

I am about to order the same tent. My rack is 13 inches tall. I am curious if you really notice the weight on the trails. I hear some saying its a big deal and some that say it doesn't effect the handling on the trails. What are your thoughts? Thanks

I don't notice the weight at all. Although I noticed a little when I had a full height rack, it was barely. Or maybe it's because I've had it so long that I've gotten used to it. But with a 13" rack, you won't notice.
