i am looking to upgrade tires and there is not much out there to choose from. i want to keep it stock looking tucked under the flares. everyone is saying not to mount 12.50's on a 7.5 rim. i have seen plenty of people using 12.50's on 7.5 they either need to make a narrower tire or change their specs.

There are no 35x12.5x17 or 315/70/17 tires that the manufacturer lists as being able to be mounted on a 7.5” wide rim, some tire places won’t mount them either. Plenty of people have them mounted on stock wheels without issue.

I've run 50k on a set of 315 KO2s that are exactly the same size as the 35x12.5x17 version and am now 5k into a set of General Grabber X3's in 35x12.5x7 on stock 7.5" wide rims on my JL. No issues at all and the KO2's are sitting in my garage and probably have a good 15k left in them.

They bulge out nicely and do a good job of keeping rocks off the rims, too, when wheeling. They drive perfectly and there is no rubbing even at full articulation and full lock on the steering. (Mopar lift). They also hold the bead on the rim very well when aired down. In fact, the old fogeys like Dan Mick in Moab call big tires on narrow rims "poor man's beadlock."

My brother is also running 35" Falken MT's on his stock JT Rubi rims. He also has no issues and no rubbing and is running the JT version of the Mopar lift.

Hilarious since it is perfectly fine for many of these manufacturers to do 12.4 inch tires on those rims. That 0.1 inch really makes a huge difference you know!

ya i have a friend with a JK rubicon that is on 37x12.50 17 on stock 7.5 wheels with no problems 86,000 miles later. he has wheeled that thing plenty of times and aired down to low PSI without a problem. the problem is that there isnt alot of options for a narrower tire which i prefer. maybe i will wait a little longer and see if anything comes out.

Nothing is going to come out.

Join the tens of thousands who have had zero issues with a 12.5” tire on stock wheels.

I have logged over 100k miles amongst various rigs with 12.5” wide tires on a 7” or 7.5” wide wheel.

37 12.5 17 Kanati trail hogs on stock wheels on mine. Only issue you will have is if yours isn't a Rubicon, Mojave, or Max tow you will need wheel spacers. Been running either 35's or 37's in this size for over 41,000 miles

Discount tire wouldn't mount them if it was going to be a issue. Some people don't know what they are talking about when it comes to what you should and shouldn't do.

315/70/17 (equivalent to 35x12.5x17) Bridgstone Dueler Revo3 ATs mounted on my stock rims just fine. No problems. But you could also do 35x11.5x17 Toyos or Nittos. Or 35x10.5x17 Kenda Klevers.

You can do it, you could be fine, but if you aren't fine you won't be happy. The issue is the tire is looking to spread it's inner locking mechanism a certain width to seat properly. If it isnt spread enough it will not be seated properly and more prone to failure. I would say this is more a nono long term than spacers. At least spacers will be held in by loctite, too narrow a rim will open up to poorly seated tires with no remedy like loctite.

The issues can become more pronounced in cornering where the tire is kinda left on it's own with no structure from the rim to guide it.

Maybe theoretically and/or maybe with a different size, but not with 35x12.5x17 on a 7.5 rim. Show one case of it on a Jeep having a failure attributed to this. I haven't heard of a 37 doing that, either. I haven't heard of it in years on this forum, JL forum, or even JK-forum, which I've been on since 2006. Not one.

On the other hand, I have heard of a number of failures and problems with spacers. So it's really a poor comparison.

Not trying to get nothing started because I totally agree that I haven't heard about a tire failure but also show me a spacer failure that's happened. In almost 22 yrs of using them, never heard of one. Show me a example of a hub centric spacer that's failed when properly installed and torqued to specs.
