OP I don’t think anyone has the real statistics on the 3.0’s occurrence of issues per X amount of trucks sold. My guess is that it’s pretty low. Low as the 3.6L or a Toyota LC 5.7L? Probably not, but I doubt these issues are common enough for you to lose $1k deposit on the truck that you want to get.

At the end of the day, these modern diesels are more complex than ever and will naturally be prone to more issues and more required maintenance vs a gasser. It’s hard to tell HOW MUCH more prone they are though. If you can accept that, then I’d say keep your order.

I'm at 6k miles, so not much at all, but I have no issues so far except the bottoming out... That's getting resolved with a 4.5" evo lift. I do get on the interstate about 2 times a day at least and run 80+mph for a good 15-20 minutes each time.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, I wouldn't have gotten the gladiator if the only option was the 3.6L engine.

Just like the news media, bad news traveled fast. If people didn’t have something to B..ch about they wouldn’t be able to flap their gums. This isn’t to say there haven’t been some issues, but you don’t hear of the thousands of happy customers. I have an issue with the front end bottoming out. I know lifting it will correct the issue, but am willing to patiently wait as a fix is supposedly due out this quarter. No big deal. Other than this I love the vehicle I put on instead of just drive.

I'm about 500 mines in, and completely problem free.
Seriously though, this is my second 3.0 diesel, and I have zero complaints about either other than excessive DEF usage while towing. Like, carry DEF with me excessive usage (or find pump DEF).

I'm new to the Gladiator diesel, and got nervous reading about how hot they get, but having owned a gas JL, and replaced it with the diesel Gladiator, I couldn't be happier so far.

People love to complain on the internet, I'm quite sure for every one we see a thousand love it quietly.

seems like every day I log on and theres nothing but problems with them, especially the diesels. timing cover oil leaks, turbo, and other issues. I understand issues, but in todays time of massive backordered parts and flat out unavailability, its concerning.. not to mention dealers, at least in my part of the country are undermanned and overwhelmed. 1-2month before they can even look at a vehicle. i know bc I have a grand cherokee that needs service frequently.
I might lose a 1k deposit, but Im seriously considering it. I hate issues.. I live 45min from the nearest dealer. could be a real pain towing it in the mountains.

What do you think about the diesel issues, is it really not that bad? is it a small percentage?
No issues here at 11,000mi. How many gladiators have been sold since 2020? How many people are on the forum? I’d say the issues you see here may not be all, but you are viewing a hyper-focused group of people talking about a variety of topics, but it’s only a fraction of the overall ownership.

I love mine. Sounds nice. i drive like im OJ headed for the border. on 37s with 3.73 i still do burn outs. and i climb inclines of 22 degrees with ease next to my house. I spent the money on the diesel vice rubicon cause i wheel this bitch and the diesel is a completely different animal. When i take my gas rubicon JT out it feels like im driving my prius lol.

If you had test driven both, I'd wager you wouldn't have posted this. This is our 4th Jeep and it's the only Jeep I've owned where I don't have to constantly remind myself "It's not supposed to be peppier than a prius, it's a jeep and great on the trails." This is magnified as you begin to mod the vehicle. While the diesel just absorbs additional static and rotational mass, the 3.6 screams over it. My penta JKU on 35s with a bumper and winch was laughably sluggish and that was only on 35s. Not a problem if it was a dedicated trail rig but it wasn't.

My wife's giant 3-row cx-9 with a wee turbo 4-pot feels like a rocket-ship compared to both of our 2 previous pentastar based jeeps and that is inexcusable. I don't expect it to be fast but there are only so many things that I'm willing to chalk up as "a jeep thing" and give them a pass on.

My EcoD on 35s, winch, bumper, rack and large hard-shell RTT wants to blow the rears off at every dig. Passing on the highway is effortless. I've only got 13k miles but they are all trouble free and I'm in the Poconos where it has felt (too tall for garage) sustained single digit temps for weeks parked in our car port without DEF problems, zero bottoming out, no axle leaks none of it and we use the heck out of it. The power at low RPMs feels so much more controlled and manageable when applying load, the motor doesn't sound strung out and scream when giving up power like the 3.6 does.

If you decide against the diesel, I'd wait till the 3.6 replacement comes. It's supposed to be an inline 6 turbo. I'm hoping its the bases for the Gladiator 4Xe.

7,000 miles and never stranded so far. I’ve done a fair amount of wheeling too. Only a bad abs sensor so far.

Ditto. I love when people grab the lane next to me at a stoplight thinking oh, its a jeep. Not to race but not to be held up by their legendary sluggishness. I would do the same thing especially if a hill was coming up.

A full send later and I'm grinning ear to ear. I particularly love it when its a sportier car that just cant get that much power down quick enough to catch me out of a dig even when I'm fully loaded down with RTT up top etc.

I’d replace your order with a 3.6 JTR. Just to avoid problems that have no solution or parts. If you end up being one of the lucky ones, good deal, but if you don’t…Just my take.

The Pentastar with the current 8 speed is a big improvement over JK platform with the 5 speed. Mine revs when I am towing going up Maine but it doesn’t seem or feel like it is strained or struggling to maintain 70mph. I am on 35s with a 4.10 gears and feel it is pretty peppy getting on the highway or accelerating on the highway to pass someone. Be curious to see if there is much of a difference in 0-60 between the two engines.

7.9s in the 3.6, 7.6s in the 3.0. That's according to motortrend. Some other publications have them slightly faster (but those used 4wd for better launches), but the diesel is always on top by .3-.4 seconds. Neither is terribly quick lol. But the off the line, I'm sure the diesel is beastly.
