So this morning, I parked on top of the parking garage at work b/c I got the tint on my windshield and drivers side door redone from a couple bubbles still showing up yesterday. Any who crazy ass wind we had this morning. I opened my door and the wind kicked up and just took the door with it. I heard a crack and the door wouldn shut at first. I thought it was really screwed up. So I forcefully shut it and heard plastic pieces drop and it was the door check. Has anyone replaced this yet? I’m assuming it’s a simple unbolt the screws on the door and swap it out. I already ordered a new door check. Only like 12 bucks or so. Rather not take it to the dealership and try and do warranty work, that’s if it’s even covered. I would rather just do it myself.

Looks like you may have to remove the door panel to get it out? and also maybe pound the metal on top out flat from the way the pic looks.

I literally just finished watching that vid and was getting ready to post on here. Seems like a pain in the ass.

It’s not that bad. Be sure to have a heat gun or hair dryer available to heat the window regulator nuts: they have green Locktite on them.
And, while you’re in there, consider adding the Passive Entry feature, if you don’t already have it.

Yeah def looks like something I could easily manage but I got the jeep in early January. I rather the dealer just do it under warranty in case I were to snap any clips or anything else. Let them replace it.

Finally replaced the door check this morning. Been doing so many little projects. Easy peasy. Not bad at all. Glad I didn take it to the dealership. And it wasn’t just broke at the body side. The pieces inside the door were just shattered. Surprised they didn drop and I wasn’t getting a constant rattle on the inside.

Uhg..... On a cold day, my driver door would only open a few inches. I forced it open and heard a crack. Now my check strap works like crap. Looks like I have to replace it also.

If i just unbolt the front of it for now, will I still be able to use the door?

Also where do I buy a replacement?
