My first Gladiator came with the proximity locks. I made sure the second one had them. I would have followed the DIY thread to add them if it didn't. I like the convenience of not having to mess with the FOB, except to unlock the gas cap.

The doors are close enough together that sensors are only needed on the front. Since I'm always walking from somewhere to the truck, I just adjust my path based on what doors need to be opened. It's not a big enough truck to be complaining about the distance if you have to walk around it to unlock the tailgate.

Push the button on the handle. You can hear the door lock. Being me, I always check to make sure even though I heard it. If I push the button on the handle and then immediately pull, mine doesn’t unlock.

I have a '18 Civic that can be set to lock the doors automatically when you walk away. For the past two years it also had a "feaure" that would unlock the doors when you got close to it; no need to touch the door handle. It turns out that second "feature" was a failed door handle/sensor that also kept the alarm system awake and would kill the battery after a week of being parked.

On my GM cars, I could check if the doors are locked by pulling on the door handle, even if I have the fob with me. To unlock the door with the fob on me, I had to depress the little button on the handle.

With the Gladiator, however, I just have to pull on the handle (with the fob on me) to unlock and open the door. So I can't check if I locked the door by pulling on the handle. I'm left with hitting the lock button on the fob, which causes the horn to beep, or opening the door and locking (again, possibly).

Is there a quiet way to check if I've locked the vehicle?

Pull on the rear door handle.

In your settings you should have an option to turn off the honk when hitting lock. I have the 8 inch screen so I'm not sure how different it is for others.

Settings > Doors & Locks > Sound Horn With Lock and form there you should have 3 options:
-Off
-1st press
-2nd press

Edit: Looks like there is a way to do it with just the Fob only as well. Not sure if this works on all Jeeps.

Disable Horn on Lock
  • 1) Press the LOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds
  • 2) While the LOCK button is pressed (after 4 seconds), press the PANIC button. Release both buttons.
Just got my Gladiator Overland and appreciate your useful info. My wife is much happier now that the horn is off when locking! 😁

Easy for me. I turn the feature off totally and lock/unlock with the key fob. And I disconnected the electric to the tailgate lock. The tailgate lock is not much of a deterrent with a soft tonneau (more like an invitation to knife the cover) and more times than not it was me that was "locked out" when I would go outside to get something and forget to bring my keys. I can lock it with the key when I want to, such as when I have any worries of the tailgate itself going missing.
Speaking of soft tonneau covers, Is there a more secure type of cover for the gladiator? Thanks!
